Okay lads we're here. We're in the GF. It's what we set ourselves at the start of this competion. We marked this night down and then you blokes did the job each week to ensure we got here. Everything I have asked of you you've done in spades. You've stuck to our plans, you've worked as hard as I could have hoped and you've reaped the rewards.
But now lads, now comes the real test. Just how far have we come? Just how good are we? We can answer these questions tonight. We can make a statement that will reverberate throughout the other AFL clubs. Don't worry about them boys, they'll be looking on with envy because all sides want to be here but only two are and one of them is us! tonight you can give them a lot to think about. This game is played in the head; if they see you blokes in the famous jumper defeat that mob out there, then they'll start to wonder, they might even expect to lose and so the victories will come because we've shown them we are better. We've sown the seeds of doubt. That is what this is about tonight, it's about setting up for the whole season and for seasons to come. It's a beginning.
So how are we going to perform lads? How are we going to make that statement?
We'll do it by running boys, by running harder and faster than ever before. We hunt in packs, we'll knock this mob off their feet and then we'll swoop and we'll move the ball so fast their defence will have no time to prepare. We'll show these blokes that we're ready to strut our stuff on any stage. The bigger the stage the beater we strut!
This is it boys, this is what football is all about, this is what Carlton is all about. This club demands success, tonight this group can give them some, can show them that we are back, back in a big way! We've been down, I don't have to tell you guys how low we've been, and how hard you've all worked to lift us out of that hole. Well now we are out and now we can show just how far back we've come.
Football is about endevour, about wanting something more than your opponent and endevouring to do everything to get it. It's about a team, a single unit that throws everything at them and comes away victorious.
Thats I want from you guys tonight. Victory! There is no second out there tonight. there is only success. Only victory. So run in numbers, support each other, tackle and harass and chase to cause the turnovers and then we'll hurt them. We've got the firepower now, we can hurt any side. Look for options, look for the blokes presenting, keep the corridors free and then use the ball . Drill the pass, hit your teammate's hands, and this victory will be ours.
Just for tonight give it everything and then you'll walk away knowing you are better than anyone gave you credit. Then this jumper will be back in the spotlight and we'll have a launching pad for the season. This victory tonight is the beginining, the beginning of what we as a team want to achieve.
So go out, go out and drag that cup from them, hold it high tonight and remember, this is where this club, this team, you want to be. Holding the cup aloft and tasting the joys of victory!
