Still think Peter Dean was BOG in 95 though.

Was easily best on podium in 1987.

Was pretty good in 95 too. Until he fell off it!

That’s what I was referring to but thought it was 87.

I could be wrong.

It almost happened once before...

Didn't he swear when getting up for the medal in 87? and fall off podium in 1995?

I could be wrong.

Swore in 87. Fell off podium when he tried to climb onto the railing in 95.

1. Williams deserved it - consistent throughout
2. Kouta - quiet 3rd quarter for some reason, at least compared to Williams
3. Dean

87:
I was busy, and confess that I still haven't watched it properly - something to look forward to. Rhys-Jones has never seemed a controversial decision

82:
Johnno for sure

79:
Buckley - Lou got it right. I've watched it umpteen times, and in a game that lots of cameos and dominant periods from several players, Jimmy was great across the whole game

72:
Have to watch it a few more hundred times (oh joy).

70:
Wasn't there, and only have the official vid that I've watched quite a bit.
I know you're adamant about Croswell, Moshe, but give McKay some consideration. Despite some goals kicked on him, great job, and very stiff to get a nothing free kick against him in the last, as we were surging. At least, that's how I remember it. Maybe I need to watch it again...and again...and again...

68:
Probably Crane. Kekovich not a bad effort to slot 4 out of 7 on a horribly windy day. Have to watch this one a few more times (not an attractive game though).

Forgot to add 81:
Fitzpatrick was great, but had no problem with Doull as the pick

Oh, and did actually watch 87 live on the idiot box but was a bit maggoted and cheering anything in a navy blue jumper.

As you do.

Never got around to owning a copy of that game for leisurely viewing.

Tempted to comment on all the non-CFC Norms but that might be better left to another thread, if there hasn't been one already...

While we're at it give Voss the one that he was robbed of.

And take the one off Buckley for looking so sour.....and just because.

Can't remember 1968 that well but Gary crane looks a cert. Thought 1970 crosswell, 1972 walls. 1979 could have been johnno but Harmes to the middle did change the game, we didn't score our first goal till almost time on in 2nd qtr. Not sure why supporters want to take doull's medal. He was sublime in 1981. Hate to seem disloyal but immediately after the siren in 82 rioli's name did come up with johnno and Fitz in our euphoric postgame discussions.

In a time when Carlton people have little to be joyful about this is one thing that Carlton management can push for...maybe they have to have coffee with Clarko to get it approved first...but either way, surely it is a no-brainer. Hawthorn could get a few retrospective Norm Smiths as well, which would impress AFL House no end. Leigh Matthews would be a certainty for 1978...wouldn't he? or was it Dippa? I can't remember.

the way you differentiate it from the accepted medals from 1979 onwards is you would write it as follows:

1972 Retrospective Norm Smith Medal - Robert Walls (Carlton)
etc
1978 Retrospective Norm Smith Medal - Leigh Matthews (Hawthorn)
1979 Norm Smith Medallist - Wayne Harmes (Carlton)

We have the footage, we have the newspaper votes, we could get a panel...but for 1968 I know for certainty it was Gary Crane. He wants the acknowledgement. Let's get it done. Run it by Clarko when he next meets with Gill.

Yup...the forgotten one
While I'm at it, do people remember that rained for almost 30 hours prior to the 1979 game?
Coll supporters bang on about how close the game was and that they were robbed with the Harmes decision
Bottom line is they wouldve been torn apart by our mosquito fleet on a dry track

Totally agree ... I keep telling that all the time. Had it been dry the game would have been over very early on.
