Generally happy. I work in an industry where projects & jobs within projects often take longer than you, or those around you, initially thought they would. It happens & I believe it is better to produce a quality result over time than try to rush & churn out rubbish. So whilst I expected us to be tracking better this year, I can't be too critical.

I think one thing we get wrong as supporters is, over the offseason, we look at the list & think about how good that best 22 would look - but without knowing who will be out injured & the effect this has on the rest. We are simply not at a stage where we can cover an injury hole like the good clubs can.

I liked Bolton before he came to Carlton & I hoped we'd get him. Still a big fan.

Having said all that - in the short term this whole footy club desperately needs a win. Just to get the media off our backs & give the players a boost. Hopefully against the Dons or the Dees in the next few weeks.

Great post and well put.
Saves me posting as I am pretty well in the same place.

The rebuild is necessary but the number of players who have plateaued or gone backwards is concerning - you expect ups and downs with youngsters though so I guess we won't know for another couple of years whether our player development is as poor as it seems right now. I don't share the same faith in the draft as most so my optimism is likewise more limited than others'.

Players who have gone backwards? Let's look at the players to earn Rising star votes last year.
(snip)
Perhaps that's part of the answer. With age comes improved consistency.

It looks to me most of the young players have stagnated or gone backwards. Inconsistency is the only constant.

Looks like we're in agreement. Like I say, too early to judge, but also not a lot of compelling evidence that all will come good. The NRS awards offer some encouragement.

Am I the only member here left from the 2002 group? cause I swear on my memory, that at the end of 2002, we were talking about a full rebuild after finishing Last and having to clean up half of the playing List!!

I have never seen a Club in Rebuild for 16 years..... Its been a stuff up after stuff up.... year after year.... Coach after Coach......

I think you're right about stuff up followed by another stuff up.

I dont see Bolton and Silvagni continuing that trend.

Syd is technically correct, "Generally happy - right direction but have some concerns"

Although generally in a five-point Likert* scale, when people choose the second-most positive then that's generally, you know, a positive.

I was one of the 10 (now 11).

Of course would prefer to be winning, but watching our young guns do their thing is enough at this stage.

And moving in the same direction. Now at 11, 76 (incl me) 15, 15 and 1.

It's actually really comforting to see. It's easy to vent in post match threads where our frustration is a it's peak but overall it's great to know the vast majority are generally happy with understandably some concerns.

It's interesting.

35 out of 40 (87.5%) so far are positive or sitting on the fence. You wouldn't know it from reading the threads.

I suppose that's how media works in general - highlight the negative over and over again and eventually you have a negative.

I thought it might go 50/50 based on the threads but I honestly had no real idea what the result would be when I put up the poll.

Very small sample - supporters tend to vote with their feet
Keep an eye on these numbers at present we are tracking better than last year - if they start to drop off over the coming weeks it will tell you what supporters think of the rebuild

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ta-carlton-blues

So Sydney Blue does the fact "at present we are tracking better than last year" tell you even at 0-6 what the supporters currently think of the rebuild?

I.e. That the supporters disagree with you?

Ps: in my opinion the stat isn't actually a good way to judge but acknowledge that you do believe it's a good way to judge it.

i think we (TC) make up a small % here of the 50k members and everyone else who supports cfc.

the CFC facebook page reveals it's 95% negative comments and ppl calling for Bolton's head and the board to be replaced. this is where the media feeds on the whole idea we're over the rebuild.
