It's not just the players you lose but what you get in return. We lost a lot of senior players and didn't bring in much to compensate.

Gibbs and Hampson were the only deals I can think of which you'd say we received something like a reasonable deal.

How about Yaz? In retrospect even the Menzel deal was decent seeing he was delisted by the crows last year.

Carlton's Charlie Curnow sidelined with ankle injury

Carlton's shocking injury run has continued, with dynamic young forward Charlie Curnow the latest to join the Blues' long injury list.

Curnow rolled an ankle at training on Tuesday and will miss this week's game against Adelaide.

Scans confirmed the injury was not serious, and the Blues had hoped he would get up for this week. But the ankle has not recovered in time for Curnow to play.

Ruckman Matthew Kreuzer is expected to be fit for this week's game and be named in the team later on Thursday, while the Blues remain hopeful captain Marc Murphy could be fit to return in one to two weeks.

MORE TO COME

For me losing Jacobs still hurts as well. I was pissed off at the time and still am. Our ruck stocks now consist of an injury prone Krooz, and second class injury prone cast offs.

F#$k me, I don't pretend to be any great judge of talent, but if the club couldn't see the potential Jacobs had... The club should have fought tooth and nail to keep him.

Phillips goes OK and yes, he has been injured but he needs a run at this level to develop. We had two or three games won because of the hitouts to advantage on the weekend and the Geelong Scott bemoaned the lack of a tap ruckman while Sydney's Kennedy was running riot as a result of their ruck dominance.
Maybe Philips will end up at Geelong if he doesn't get an opportunity here. Like Jacobs, who spent all his time watching in the VFL Warnock and Kreuzer. Kreuzer I could understand and maybe Jacobs could too but Warnock?
Issue too was Warnock had a great year too and a brilliant final as well. Jacobs was on the rookie list still, or had just come off it so we underrated his value. So that blinded us and we made a blunder in hindsight but they were the circumstances at the time. He was our no.4 ruck but in reality our no.2.

Not sure any game was won last week due to hitouts to advantage. They could've had a tap ruck and Kennedy still could've destroyed them.

You can only play one ruck. You can't play another because you want to keep him. Phillips hitouts to advantage last week was 25%. We won the hitouts 56 to about 15 but lost the clearances. GWS lost the tapouts 47-4 but won the clearances. Let's not overrate tapouts. We were too tall and slow enough last week so we don't want to be playing another ruckman for the sake of a few tapouts. Phillips only plays if Kreuzer is out. Much better letting Kreuzer run around for 80% of the game and Casboult the other 20%. History has shown us many time we have got so much better value.

Is there such a thing as the mercy rule in AFL?

Docherty - ACL in training
Pickett - scaphoid in training
Murphy - plantar tear in warmup
Curnow - ankle in training

I am sure there have been others.
We need to look at Training Services

We have had some pretty bad luck. In the last three years we have had 4 ACL's....Judd, Byrne, Rowe and Docherty we cant take a trick.

I wonder if Kerr is in the thoughts for Charlies spot?

Dont want Charlie to miss out - but would really like to see what Kerr has at AFL level

Well, after the injury news I'd go

Out: Marchbank, Curnow, Philips, O'Shea, Silvagni
In: Weitering, Kerr, Kreuzer, Garlett, Lang

Not ideal but at least not so top heavy.

Plowman Rowe Simpson
Weitering Jones Mullett
Thomas Cripps Lang
Fisher Kerr Garlett
Wright McKay Casboult
Kreuzer Kerridge Curnow
Dow O'Brien Kennedy SPS

3 key forwards, i'd say not. We were very tall and slow last week and consequently we had no run at all not to mention no ability to lock the ball in our F50. We need to go smaller.

What's wrong with Marchbank? Did he rush back last week?

You can blame Ratts, the club, anyone else if it makes you feel better but Jacobs hated Melbourne. I played golf with him at a Spirit of Carlton golf day and he said he loved the club and the players but hated living in Melbourne.
He said he had a close family and it was his intention to return to Adelaide if the opportunity arose.

We just gift wrapped that opportunity by courting Warnock and basically saying he wasn't part of our plans
Loving the club and the players is just as good a reason to stay as is hating Melbourne a reason to go
Everybody thought Pavlich would end up back in Adel but Freo is now his home
We'll never know with Sauce

Warnock joined Carlton at the end of 2008. Jacobs played his first game in 2009 and left Carlton at the end on 2010, 24 months after Warnock arrived at Carlton.
