You seem to have linked the tackling with all the other indicators and associate that with the coaches messages. A bit of a stretch don't you think?

yeah look, i totally am not meaning to sound like i'm starting rumours.

I should have said something like:

Historically speaking, effort is a prime indicator of whether players are buying into the coach's scheme. How many times did we hear in malthouse's final weeks that our players have tuned him out and stopped playing for him?

This season so far we seem like a team who are confused with structure, seem to not know where they should be. Where last year we were a hard, well drilled team playing for coach and each other.

tackles, kilometres run, pressure acts are all down. I wonder if there is a link with that and coaching?

Well what redback said is valid. Time in possession would certainly skewer tackling stats. But, Richmond and WC are two high possession teams with good efficiency. WC & Tigers particular play a zone where they take away options up field for their opposition, rather then tackle and harass and flood the ball carrier.

We're not at the elite end of the table and we have an inexperienced list. our KPI's are going to be a lot different to teams fighting for a flag. Again, not wanting to be a broken record. but our KPI's are going to be those effort based things like tackling, pressure acts, 1%'ers, ball hawking and hunting as a pack etc ...

all things which we were really excellent at last year (and the year before), but have dropped off significantly this season at.

Between 140 to 160 tackles in a game and about 5 or 6 holding the balls paid.
You would wonder why you would tackle at all

i know i'm a broken record here. but anyway... our first year under bolton was our best tackling year in a long long time. we were at the top of the league for tackles achieved and pressure acts committed. second year, we tailed off from the first year, but the difference was negligible.

and this season we are near the bottom in tackles, pressure acts and kilometres run per game. when these trends start to appear, it's often an indicator the coaching staff have lost the group. tacking is about want and desire and putting your body onto the line. turning up for your mate, and gut running bcos you believe it is for something. you believe in the plan and believe that plan will deliver wins.

we have tackling issues bcos players have possibly stopped believing.
Completely agree..... You're a broken record.

Agree SB very frustrating seeing the ball drop to a free opposition player when one or two Blues players are out of the play because they are TACKLING

We also are targeted by opposition teams as an 'if tackled by X, just keep going, if tackle doesn't break, drop ball' team... Can't believe the umps don't see it, but also that the coaches don't (if they don't!)

Go Blues

While the players might be new to the afl, this is a game they've been playing their whole life. Tacking is not a new concept.

and simpson and fisher are two featherweights who rip in. so size isn't the biggest indictor. it's effort. tackling, running, pressure acts, the 1%'ers. It's all effort based, rather than skill based. and they're good indicators as to whether the players are buying what the coaching staff are selling.

Richmond are 1st on the ladder. They're 13th in the AFL for tackles.
West Coast are 2nd. They're 15th in the AFL for tackles. 16th for 1%ers. Are their players buying what the coaching staff are selling?

you don't need to tackle if you have the ball

Stats can always be skewed to suite an argument also, bending the information subtly
the tigers have a 35+ tackle differential against the sides they have played , eagles -8
us -63
