Pros:

Over 100 points. 8 goals in a quarter.
Fantastic forward efficiency. Great job, David Teague.
Didn't give up when the margin grew.
We beat Hawthorn (and they clearly wanted to win).
We won the contested ball.

Loved the game of Kennedy.
Thought Marchbank was terrific, even though he played a different role (further up the field).
Pickett was electric.
Another good effort from Byrne.
Much better game from Lamb. Seemed to contribute in a midfield role.
Slashing 1st half from Charlie and Fisher.
Great 2nd half from Thomas, Cripps and Weitering.

Thought it was a good effort from Harry and Casboult to compete in the ruck. Got Harry into the game a little.

Great to see the class of SPS running around again.
Thought O'Brien competed pretty well late in the game.

Cons:

Got slaughtered in the tackles.
Ridiculous 'too high' frees to Hawthorn players. :banghead:
Kreuzer's injury.
Some awful turnovers late from Murph.
Although he was much better late, not sure we can rely on Mullett as our 3rd small defender.

Good win. Happy We go into the season with now 2 solid hit outs and wins!
However, we still need to stick our tackles and apply pressure from all 22 not just a few. To many times tonight they waltz around our attempted tackles and applied pressure. We still have some that pretend to pressure or tackle.....if everyone doesn’t go up a notch, Bitchmond will hurt us twice as much ..... might be harsh but...

Really good second half

Enjoyed the win

The GWS boys March Pickett and Kennedy did well

Like Kennedy really does give Crippa a break

Glad we won but Hawks almost kicked themselves out of it a good team would have put us away in the first and second quarter

Need to get a start like against Aints

Casboult did well given he rucked for 3 quarters

Weitering nice to have him back and a cameo from SPS oozes class
Thomas wright and lamb all improved in the second half

Thought Jones and Plowman were not as good this week

Thought Mullet was better this week and showed some pace
Thought he played on the wing rather than HBF

Harry I don't think will play but happy with his endeavour

OBrien good efforts but don't think he will play round one

Lots to like. Lots to work on.

Happy to win again. Think it's important for where we are at.

Actually look dangerous up forward. Need to get it there more though.

Concerned about our inability to transition the ball out of defence. Dish that first qtr up in round 1 and the game will be over.

Was sloppy at times and our skills and polish weren't great however loved our heart and never give up attitude.

Fish and Charlie's first halfs

Cripps after a slow start :smoking:

Hopefully season 2018 will be a highly positive one.

Just caught bits of the game. Loved the run of play that lead to Pickett's mark & goal in the second qtr.

Is it fair to say the umpires hated us?

You’d be forgiven for thinking Carlton were beaten by 10 goals going by the AFL’s highlights reel.

Well last night we saw why Casboult is so important. Harry is not ready.
Our disposal under pressure in the first half was way below standard and led to so many shots at goal from the opposition. We can expect Richmond to come out with that sort of manic pressure so this was a good hitout in that sense.
Our tackling is just not up to standard.
They need to know when to run the footy and when not to. The last few minutes they chose the wrong option trying to go down the middle when they needed to control the game. It might well have come unstuck and would have had the Hawks kicked straight.

On the plus side, they could easily have dropped their bundle after being 23 points down and they didn't. That's a great sign and that close win will hold us in good stead in the close games that will surely come during the year.

We have unearthed a few good players:
Kennedy is a bull and will play every game if he can spay fit. Dow wasn't as good this week but he definitely has 'it' and will play a lot of footy for us.
Pickett and Fisher have the X factor and make the most of the possessions they get.
Lamb played a good mixed game of attack and defence and is still only 25.
Charlie was good BUT he gets both hands to the footy a lot and doesn't hold his marks. That will come. He presents well.
Jack had a good game as well. I still don't know if he will make it but he is certainly not going to die wondering. He has the smarts and the courage. If he can get his one and two a week that will be a good result for the club. 35 + goals is a good tally for a third forward.
The backline performed well under a constant barrage of entries. I still don't know how teams seem to get multiple unattended players inside 50 for the easy pass but I am sure someone is working on that.

If we take that game to Round one we will not be disgraced. If we can limit the turnovers in the back half, we are in with a show. I think BB has them fit and if they can stay in touch, that opens up the fourth quarter.

We have bottomed out and have nothing but blue skies ahead. The only question is how long it will take.

13 of the 16 goals from no further than 20 out directly in front...

i hope that's the new norm

Thankyou wook!!
Look we may have peaked early...
But I reckon we are a chance to humble the puffed up tiggers. We have speed and cunning and dare.
The only wee problem might be getting the footy out of their front half. Luckily we got in almost 2 hours worth of practice on that issue last nite.
