Hi all,
My first post on the page. Eek! Been doing a bit of reading about former players recently and one name I don't think gets anywhere near enough recognition is Peter Bosustow.

I wish he'd come over to Vic sooner as the three years he spent here were great. I remember seeing highlights of him every single week. If anyone came into the league now averaging 17.7 disposals and 2. goals a game, people would be all over them. Kids at my school were yelling "Bosustow" as they went for marks. He was the "it" player for a couple of years.

A blog I read named him as one of the most freakish players of all time. I'd have to agree. He was the sort of player who made something happen out of nothing. Anyone want to chime in with some of the Bosustow greatness they witnessed? Would love to exchange some positive memories.

Here's the link to the article I read. It's got his Goal of the Year footage in it

Regards

The buzz was a very special player. So much so, Parkin would send the runner out and tell him the team needs a spark. Sure enough he would deliver the big mark or goal. IMO was involved in one of our best CFC half forward lines in: Johnston Maclure Bosustow.....

Broke a lot of supporters hearts when he left back to Perth with plenty of footy left in him.

Was my favourite when he was at Carlton and I remember being gutted when he left.
Put his hand through a window not long after IIRC.

As with virtually all the highlights of the CFC glory years I was there including when he took mark of the year and kicked goal of the year.

His highlights reel was special.

But it was big headedness which caused him to go back to W.A. I believe.

I’m in the mark of the year picture - unless I’m told otherwise

It was an absolute travesty that The Buzz wasn't selected among Carlton's 150 greatest players - because he "didn't meet the criteria of playing at least 50 games over five seasons".

What utter bullshit.

He did more in his three years at Princes Park than half the players on that list. :screwy:

A good bloke too, at least in my experience. Met him and his wife to see if I could help them with some issues they have, my contact had already told him my daughter and I were Blues fans. First thing Buzz did was ask my daughter's name and write a personalised message to her on a photo of that mark - she treasures that. And when some weeks later Buzz phoned my mobile while I was home of an evening (time zone difference meaning it was still work hours for him) and I put my daughter on the line to thank him for the photo it took about half an hour to get the phone back - he'll talk Carlton all day.

But what a player he was. Great tragedy he didn't play more for the mighty Blues.

Thanks for sharing that. A bit more insight into the great man.

I wasn't there when he took that mark, but my Dad used to drag me down to the local to watch the replay on the weekends with a couple of other families. I'd play the pinball or pool with the other kids while they had a beer and watched the TV. I remember the place popping when they showed Buzz taking that mark. Everyone just stopped, whether they barracked for Carlton or not.

I was!....sitting in the scoreboard at other end of the ground.

All I saw was a bloke flying in the air. A sight to behold.

Me, too.
Next to the glass window of the then Blue Diamonds coterie (outside) with my dad.
In the Herald Sun photo we are there as clear as a bell, which is weird because I was in Sydney that year and must have gone down for the weekend or been on leave or something.
We had the same seats in that stand for years and sat in among the Bendigo people who came down on the bus week after week.
Saw Matthews jump into Kenny Hunter
Mad Dog
Carlton kick 12 or 13 goals in a quarter against South
The fire in the grandstand
Great times.

If Buzz had played out his career with the Blues we would easily be standalone with the most premierships.

12.5 in the first quarter against Sydney in 1982. I was behind the goals at the Heatley Stand end and after about the eighth goal we were just laughing our heads off with each additional goal.

Only kicked another fifteen goals for the game though. Definitely a little tired after that first quarter.

Buzz kicked 6 straight and Dominator 5.4.

Footy was really fun back then...

It’s the reason I’ve always used the photo as my avatar.

Thanks for that. I couldn't remember during which of my two stints at Puckapunyal it happened or I might have said 'Sydney'. I do remember rushing home to watch the replay and my mum wanted to watch Young Talent Time. Grrr. Back in the 'one TV per household' days.
