Pick 53 for Tom Scully- haahhhaaahaa!!
Hilarious.
It is the quality of the players they get to make a play on. That’s the difference. “Destination club”.

Hawthorn will make the top 8 again. That’s a given barring serious injuries. From there, anything can happen. Did anyone predict Collingwood would beat Richmond in preliminary?

Next year 28yo, dodgy ankle, on big dollars.
Hawks can have him.

Agree, reckon he's done.

Scully 27 years old, is contracted for a further 3 years on a very healthy salary and has had a serious leg injury.
One would suggest the trade reflects a reality he's a high risk.

His salary for the next 3 years is $500 k very reasonable for a player of his quality... to put things in perspective, his salary is not dissimilar to what we were paying Jed Lamb on his GWS contract

Scully is leaving largely due to the medical advice he got at GWS, and now that we have the Hawks’ high performance manager I am guessing he would be keen to get to Carlton.( sarcasm included.)

Hawks=destination club. Please GWS don’t let him go there for pick 57. Make them pay something of value. Future 1st round pick or 2nd round, plus steak knives. Make them squirm. Hawthorn- the most unethical of clubs... but I guess the AFL gave them the grounding for it.

If we did get the AFL permission to trade next year first round:

We give up: Pick 1, Future 1st round, 69 and 71
Get back: 2, 5, 19, 59

Adelaide give up: 8, 13, 16, 21, 73
Adelaide get: 1, 44

Brisbane get: 13, 21, 73, 69, 71
Brisbane give up: 5, 44,

Gold Coast give up: Pick 2, 19, 59
Gold Coast get: Future first round pick and 8

Which means:

Walsh at 2
Trade 69/71 (78 points) for 59 (158) which allows for us to bid as high as pick 45 for BSOS
5 and 19 gives us the option of delisting 2 players we'd otherwise carry into the season or delist for this years' O'Shea/Mullett/Shaw.

If Byrne (Walsh) goes and Casboult (BSOS) is found a home, I'd delist Graham (5) and re-rookie Rowe (19). Delist and re-rookie Lamb or Kerridge if Casboult is forced to stay put.

For Gold Coast, it's an upgrade of 603 points from 19 to 8, which means that we'd have to finish out of the bottom 5 next year for them not to gain out of this deal.

Good analysis. However, 3 club trading of picks is difficult to do.
Kerridge is not at AFL level. He must love being at Carlton. Graham not at the standard required either.

I agree with your point of releasing these players ASAP.
Lamb has at least been a game winner at AFL level. I would keep him.

There's no rookie list requirements for elevation these days, so I'd be keeping Lamb, just taking advantage of him being out of contract and put on the rookie list instead.

While I suspect Adelaide would baulk at that given the huge points discrepancy given up, I'd be reminding them that a similar deal with Port Adelaide would be far easier:

We give up: Pick 1, Future 1st round, 69 and 71
Get back: 2, 6, 15 (Hawks pick for Wingard), 48

Port Adelaide give up: 6, 10, 15, 48
Get: Pick 1, 19, 69 and 71

Gold Coast give up: Pick 2, 19
Gold Coast get: Future first round pick and 10

Must say I'm excited about what our side might be like in 2-3 years:

Mids: Cripps, Fisher, Dow, Walsh, SPS, O'Brien, Setterfield
Key Forwards: Charlie, Harry, McGovern
Key Defenders: Weitering, Marchbank, Macreadie
No 1 ruck: DeKoning
Flankers/rotate through middle: Williamson, Pickett, Cunningham, Silvagni

It's coming together nicely.

Nah, if we have one more bad year we should scrap the whole thing and go back to doing things the John Elliott way.

Whoops - I forgot Doc as well.
Maybe can trade our first rounder next year for another established mid and we are well on our way.

Do you mean the North Melbourne way?
Brown paper bags?
The AFL would love to completely destroy this club. Maybe move the Blues to Bundaberg? or Wagga?
Getting the best coaches in would be a good start....but even that hasn't proven to be a success with Pagan and Malthouse. Or alternatively just move from one disaster to another.

Can clubs do that now? Players used to have to go back into the draft and then be picked up in the rookie draft. If it has been changed then it makes it easier for the clubs.

That still applies, but I'm not sure there's a huge demand for him either.

I'm not sure Fraser Brown still tackles the way he used to.

Other thing that's concerning about next year's future pick is the likelihood that GC have another 3 early picks (let's say they finish last again, May leaves under free agency and the AFL give them a priority pick).

Could finish second last and end up with pick 4 at best in a lesser draft to this years'.

Far out man, We got Pick 1, and the next one is not until 69.

We have given away all of our picks for recycled players. They friggin better pay us off. I would have been far happier with picks 24 & 25 which we previously had.

This from the AFL site:
"Trade and free agency ins: Alex Fasolo, Mitch McGovern, Will Setterfield, pick 42, pick 71, future third-round selection (Adelaide)

Trade and free agency outs: Pick 26, pick 28, pre-listed state league player selections (Shane McAdam to Adelaide and Nathan Kreuger to Geelong)"

Effectively we got Fasolo, McGovern, Setterfield and 71 for our original 25 and 26 (I think those ones in red above are a bit off the mark).

Is that right?
