Colourman I can't say I am a fan of SOS but as the Dr has shown......and I concur, you can't have it both ways. You say we need midfielders and he picked two passing on a tall defender.

Regards Cazzesman

Why aren't you a fan?

The laughter being referred to at draft night was back in 2014 when we reached and selected Boekhurst at pick number 19, which we received along with Jaksch and Whiley) in a swap for our pick 7.

That selection had nothing to do with SOS - in fact he presided over that change from GWS' end!

If you want to have a stab at SOS, go for it.. but get your facts straight first.

SOS had the following selections in 2014:

4 (used on Jarrod Pickett)

6 (used on Caleb Marchbank)
7 (used on Paul Ahern)

We know where picks 4 and 6 ended up. Ahern did his knee twice and subsequently wound up at North Melbourne and debuted this year.

Collingwood had pick 5 and selected De Goey......... so SOS appears to have mis-fired on that one. If you want to criticize him - do it on that.

Anyway, play on.

You are correct our selection of Boekhurst, did result in a chorus of laughter (well a bit muzzled but laughter nonetheless) and it was led by SOS on that night.

However their were guffaws on the last draft night at our selections at 10 & 30, of course these were not led by SOS.

The source is from someone at a nearby table, in the industry and I can assure you doesn’t have an agenda.

What's so funny about picking up De Koning at 30?

Kid could be special...

feeling a little depressed. Off season is our time to shine. Unfortunately only current news available is that Shiel will go to Hawks, no Kelly will come to us, Byrne may not return, Wright has walked and big names are continuously preferring top 4 clubs. We may have a McGovern and that is nice...but...

Hoping that things will turn soon, otherwise I am left with pre-season training as the only part of the year to enjoy....

So, just as an experiment, here's the Eagles premiership team, and their possible equivalents in our side.
This is mostly to see where our list has potential holes:

Shannon Hurn (c) - 186cm rebounding defender - Docherty

Tom Barrass - 194cm tall, intercept defender - Marchbank

Will Schofield - 196cm tall defender - Jones

Liam Duggan - 183cm small defender - Simpson

Jeremy McGovern - 190cm elite intercept marking defender - Weitering

Lewis Jetta - 181cm - (elite speed) used as a half-back - Cunningham

Mark Hutchings - 181 cm, tagger - E. Curnow

Elliot Yeo - 189cm midfielder, (elite mark) - Cripps

Chris Masten - 179cm midfielder - Murphy

Liam Ryan - 179cm half-forward with x-factor - Garlett

Jack Darling - 191cm mobile forward - C. Curnow

Jamie Cripps - 183cm half-forward - Lang

Willie Rioli - 175cm small forward - Pickett

Josh Kennedy - 194cm tall forward - McKay

Mark LeCras - 182cm medium forward - Silvagni

Scott Lycett - 202cm ruck - Phillips

Luke Shuey - 183cm midfielder - Dow

Jack Redden - 189cm midfielder - Kennedy

Dom Sheed - 185cm midfielder - Thomas

Daniel Venables - 187cm midfielder - SPS

Nathan Vardy - 199cm ruck - Kreuzer

Tom Cole - 185cm half-back - O'Brien

I’m not sure how much football you watched this year....

More than I have in years. Loved Naughtons poise, kicking, football intelligence. Richards looked as if he'd been playing the game at that level for years. Both look ready made...but it's not about being ready made. Judge them after 40 games minimum...a couple of pre-seasons. O'Brien will be a beauty...already directing traffic at stoppages. Elite athlete...his left foot WILL do some damage. I don't think I need to talk about Dow. Still like both of those picks.

How can anyone criticise our selections even when only focussing on what Dow did has me baffled

Paddy alone is enough to tick off the 2017 haul, let alone what Lachie showed us

Thumbs up from me

Well you all know the saying, he who laughs last laughs best. And personally I think O'Brien showed enough signs last year that he will develop into a gun. Everyone has to remember that both Naughton and Richards had a better team around them, with more support, protecting them and letting them develop at their own pace and to their strengths. Let's see how they go next year when they start getting some real attention from other teams.

LoB is in the Isaac Smith mould. He needs to watch footage of Smith all summer. And when we play Hawk$ he needs to run with him to learn how it's done.

Naughton is a terrific young tall defender. Pity he kicks like Casboult.

Fair call but let's remember, Isaac Smith was 1 month of turning 22 when drafted. O'Brien has another 3 seasons up his sleeve before he's at the age Smith was drafted at. By then, he'll be when of the best runners in the AFL with a bit of luck with injury. He already has exceptional endurance.
