I get it but watching tonight, Rioli, Higgins...etc.. half forward with goal sense, speed and competitiveness are becoming so valauable. Makes me think we need to start again with ours.

We were 10 years ahead of the comp when we had our own relentless Mosquito fleet: J Garlett, E Betts and C Yarran.

Peaked too early :lol:

Best thing Malthouse did in his time was try to develop Murphy in that role, and he sulked about it. Think its something that should happen.

Didn't the great Greg Williams play in this role late in his career, 1995 grand final comes immediately to mind.

If we pay anything more than pick 60 for Fasolo we need to just fold, DFA written all over him, they wanted to get rid of him last year. Can't imagine why we are even interested!!
But then again this is a club that wanted Smedts O'Shea Kerridge etc etc on it's list smfh.
Fasolo is an unrestricted free agent, so if we do get him it will cost us nothing but his salary and a place on the list. I'm with you though, no thanks.

O'Shea = Pick 1
Mullett = Pick 24

Still need to make room for Pick 25, a potential priority pick, McGovern, Shiel, Scrimshaw, 2 state listed players, etc.

Kerridge, Lamb, Rowe, Graham, Pickett only ones not re-contracted yet. Wonder what's taking so long on the Pickett front?

Four Blues made to wait as club focuses on trades

Quote:
The Blues currently have picks 1, 24, 25, 65 and 73 at the upcoming NAB AFL Draft, but could receive an additional early selection as a priority pick from the AFL.

FWIW - Not sure on the mail as the guy is pretty new though.

SOS is very good friends with Ross Lyon; they often catch up. It doesn’t indicate that Lyon is Blues bound. Mitchell on the other hand . . .

The Shiel trade won’t be finalised until the trade period. A loyal and dedicated player, it’s not 100% that he’ll come to Melbourne. I’ve heard it is a 75% chance.

Also, Hawthorn are linked to everything by speculative journalists as are Essendon* because recently they’ve both attracted players. If Shiel comes to Melbourne it will be to the Blues only (like October 2007) I doubt Shiel will do a tour of Essendon* and Hawthorn!!

Both clubs are in agreement to trade. Notionally Shiel and Setterfield are supported by both clubs, especially since returning from a knee injury, Setterfield will take time to warm up in 2019 and Shiel would leave for only a pick compensation at the end of 2019.

Some players come to clubs as a happy accident/bonus. Teague was crucial in almost swaying the other Tom Lynch until his other former forward player McGovern seemed keen to move.

Gaff to Melbourne is 50/50 and if so 50/50 to Carlton or North.

A couple of references in media that Rowe and Lamb have got another contract - I hope both are playing regularly for NB in 2019 - Lamb was ok in 2018 and did some good work late in backline when defence decimated -Rowe in my view had his worse season in about 4 and is very lucky to be offered another contract

Surely there are better key defenders than Rowe in the WAFL or SANFL that we could use for depth ??

Rowe was always going to struggle this year coming back from a knee reconstruction, it didn’t help having to play in a backline that was pounded all year given he was marginal at AFL to begin with.

He is a good back up KPD because he knows our system unlike any other player brand new to the club. We’ve all seen what happens when you flood the list with new players, no matter how good they night be.

He can add stability to the NB’s and mentor new/younger players into the club. Happy to give him one year.

If he’s constantly playing seniors next year then the club is up s**t creek regardless of what other marginal player we might have replaced him with.

If ASoS had stayed healthy, Rowe would now be gone.

Dalhaus no certainty to be at the Cats.

Blues heavily into him & he's interested.

I respect him but I wouldn't pay him a lot. His game has dropped off a lot in the past 18 months.
