So, let's say we don't get a priority pick.

How are we going to land Shiel, McGovern and Setterfield with the following picks ?

2018 - Pick 1, 2 x 2nd round, 4th round
2019 - 1st round, 2nd round, 3rd round, 4th round.

Would this work?
Next years first rounder (probably top 5)to GWS for Shiel and their first rounder. (14-18 mark). On trade that first rounder to cows for MM and get a 3rd rounder back.
Trade of one our 2nd rounders from this draft for Setterfied.

TBH I don’t think we would get Shiel for a swap of first round picks.
We could give up 1st round pick next year for Shiel.
Trade up our 2 x 2nd round picks for a pick in the teens which we trade for MM (or skip the middle man and just give 2 x 2nd rounders directly for MM).

Trade next year’s 2nd pick for Setterfield (if we believe he is worth it).

Plus whatever peripheral swaps of picks/players.

But I’d be surprised if we don’t at least get a mid-first round priority pick.
And at worst, end of 1st round priority pick which we can definitely package up with pick 24 or 25 for MM.
(I suspect our starting position that we think MM is worth 15-20 is to preempt the possibility of end of first round priority pick. Which, btw, leads me to believe that we’ve been told we’ll get a PP, it’s just a matter of whether that is pre-draft, mid-round 1 or post-round 1...)

What would you have said if Adelaide came to us last year and offered us pick 10 for Gibbs and pick 19?

Shiel being criminally underrated here

I don't see it as same set of circumstances as Gibbs. Firstly, Gibbs more important to us than Shiel is to GWS. Secondly, they'll only trade Shiel if they believe he'll go in 12 months as a free agent. So, they'll trade for a better pick than the compo pick they'll get. Thirdly, they are looking for salary cap relief. Getting Shiel off their books provides that relief.
I have no doubt if he nominates us, we'll propose the deal I mentioned and they'll counter with what you said . First round pick only. What the final deal is, remains to be seen.

I wonder if that's because he's still in contract limbo?

Losing two top 12 players to retirement is a disaster to our list. If the footy dept can't bring in replacement talent we're gonna have another verrrry loooong winter.

Agreed! matty is a big loss for us. Sure, he may never be the 40-50+ goals a year forward that we need, but he's consistant and thats huge.

I wonder if the club knew about this months ago hence why we're looking at Fasolo?

Not to mention his defensive pressure in the F50.

Looks like we’re already tanking for next years PP.

Do you mean Alex Silvagni? His 7 games in 2 seasons make him a top 12 player, or am I missing someone else?

Wonder if its worth putting up Kreuzer in context of discussions with GWS, assuming we're able to pay the majority of his salary.

* - Lobb looks as good as gone, they have no decent ruckman.
* - From our list perspective, we're one tall too many, and it looks as though Casboult is generating zero interest.
* - Need to make a call on both Phillips and Lobbe also at the end of next season, not sure we can make informed decision otherwise.
* - Good way to fit De Koning into the side, if we've already got McKay/Curnow/McGovern up forward.
