I’m sure it’s #1 item on our list end of season.

Injury management will win us games alone, by having our best side available.

No they are the medicos fault :screwy:

No, of course not directly...however injury management, strength and conditioningand rehab all need a thorough review. Would you agree with that?

To a point, but after previously being in the fitness industry for 5 years sometimes they just can't be prevented as every body is different, especially when all teams are trying to get that extra 1% out of their players. Plus a lot of the injuries have not been preventable or are impact injuries. I mean you can't prevent breaks from impact, ligament damage through playing or training and even hamstring and osteitis pubis injuries are a product of heavy weight and explosive type training. I'd be concerned if we had an issue like Adelaide where most of the team have hamstring injuries but unfortunately for us, we've just had shit luck this year.

Not necessarily.... Our major injuries this year have been significant collision and impact injuries including ACLs, medials, ankles etc.

Lats year, people would have been saying GWS and Adelaide were going along well....not so this year. Adelaide are going to be reactive and change their rehab.

Richmond are going along fine. A couple of major collision injuries and they will be looking sideways at their rehab environment as well.

I maintain that all of these guys and girls come through the same system using the same best practice guidelines. There is not much you can do when big bodies hit bodies. Shit happens. And it has happened in truck loads to us this year.

Our record re: players getting injured early, especially when they were 50/50 to play during the week, or getting re-injured in their first game back is odious and has been for a while.

I do hope we don't look at 2018 as just being "shit luck", because that means our processes won't be assessed thoroughly.

"There is not much you can do when big bodies hit bodies" - but when one body is big and strong and the other is weak, you know which one's more likely to be hurt.

And yes, recurrent injuries are a problem for us and are a sure sign of an inadequate process.

Apparently in the SEN Carlton podcast, one of Maher’s offsiders mentioned a chat with MLG where it was made pretty clear that this fitness issue would not be accepted and a full review (of this and other areas) would take place after the season.

The fact is, we have just had shit luck with injuries but I'm sure the board will do it's due diligence and review all processes. Especially seeing as though there is now more money, we can throw that lazy million at the football department in areas like injury prevention, management and rehabilitation.

I think you hit the nail on the head about the size of the bodies and unfortunately, that just takes time for the kids to bulk up (unless you call in Dank). If they try and rush the process that's when we will start seeing a lot of soft tissue injuries and worst case scenario damage the kids bodies for their whole career.

There's probably 4 players of quality missing from our team.

Are they on the injury list or is that a general comment about our list?

If anyone cant see more than 4 quality players on that list, they're not here for the hunting.

Cunningham’s ongoing injuries have been really disappointing, I was hoping for big things from him this year.

Dow ponders the story so far

BLUES midfielder Matthew Kennedy has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, after sustaining ligament damage in his left ankle at training earlier this week.

The 21-year-old will be sidelined for approximately 12 weeks.

Head of Football Andrew McKay confirmed Kennedy would require surgery over the coming days.

“Unfortunately scans have confirmed the ligament damage in that left ankle and clearly we’re disappointed for Matthew that he will miss the remainder of the season,” McKay said.

“He will undergo surgery in the coming days before commencing his rehab program the following week. His determination and diligence to the program coupled with our constant support will enable him to be fit and available for the commencement of the upcoming pre-season campaign.”

Disappointing for him.
Hopefully he will be right for the start of pre season training.

what's that like 10 players with season ending injuries?

There's Bad Luck........ and then there's poor management.
