Docherty ruptures ACL November 15, 2017 2:29 PM Newsletter RSS Cripps talks pre-season and new players Patrick Cripps fronted the media ahead of training today. Related Cripps keeping the faith Carlton appoints new CEO CARLTON Football Club can confirm defender Sam Docherty has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament at a pre-season training session on Wednesday. The 24-year-old will undergo traditional surgery over the coming days before commencing his rehabilitation process. Head of Football Andrew McKay said the Club would fully support the impressive young defender throughout his recovery. “As we commence our pre-season campaign, the news of Sam’s injury is incredibly disappointing for everyone but foremost for Sam,” McKay said. “Sam is a total professional and a resilient young man and we know he will face his rehabilitation process with the utmost dedication. “As a terrific young leader at our club, Sam will continue to work with the leadership group and assist in the development of our young players both on and off the field. “While we are incredibly disappointed by the long-term nature of Sam’s injury, it provides an opportunity for our young defenders to continue to train hard over the pre-season to solidify their spot in the backline in Sam’s absence in 2018.” Newsletter RSS |

Not good news, but it shouldn't bring on excuses for the clubs onfield efforts. It should be looked at as a challenge to the playing group to dig deep, not throw their hands up in the air. I'm almost certain Bolton will look at it that way. |

Absolutely gutted that Doc will miss 2018, others will step up, but he will be particularly missed for his leadership down back. Here's hoping for a Succesful & Speedy Recovery. |

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we're off! Richmond remains injury free for a whole year. Meanwhile our best player is gone after walking on to the grass for the first time. |

Come on guys, it wouldn't be preseason for us without someone important going down on day 1 for an extended period. |

What sucks even more about our annual "preseason surprise" is that they're often players whose loss makes us drop our bundle. While other teams have managed to go on strong without key players for long stretches, we've always capitulated. It would also be nice to have all our leaders out there for the year. First it’s Kreuz and Murph in 2016, Cripps this year, and now THIS. No @#$%&! wonder we have a leadership vacuum, we can never get them all on the park. Hopefully this group now has what it takes to overcome these setbacks. Otherwise we remain well and truly [REDACTED]. |

Really feel for Doc Im now adjusting after that gut wrenching news. The durable Simmo can give leadership down back, whilst the kids will will lift to fill the void. Big team effort required. We will be stronger for it....hopefully. Good luck Doc. |
