if the system is in place to give priority picks, and if other clubs have benefitted from this in the past, it's asinine that we wouldn't ask for one?

what is the downside from receiving one?

1 extra pick means nothing in the big picture.

i also heard him be quite optimistic that we will increase our wins in the second half of the year when we get some players back.

can't say i disagree with that... as long as they can stay on the park!

We really are an embarrassment

Why the hell would you knock back a potential priority pick?

We definitely deserve one if you look at our performances since 2014

Should have nothing to do with the perception it creates

In fact it just makes it harder to climb the ladder in a FA environment, which the top clubs are happy to exploit

Where is the actual priority pick ... after our first pick or at the end of round 1 ... if it is the latter then that is comical and provides no stimulus of any substance to struggling clubs. The AFL has chopped and changed on this due to media pressure yet the struggling clubs continue to struggle.

I just wonder if a club was to reveive a priority pick after their first pick with the proviso that they had to trade it ... would this add stimulus to the trade period

I heard the interview this morning. Don't care about spin or media or whatever but one thing he said that resonated with me was that to take a priority pick is to admit that you've lost control. I believe them when they say they haven't lost control and know exactly what they want, where they are now and where they want to get to...

So by that logic if we finish on the bottom and get another number one pick it’s because we’re in control and that’s what we want?

Personally I thinks it’s stupid to knock back a priority pick, we should maximise the gain out of the system, that’s what successful clubs do.

Successful organisations take responsibility for their actions

If we finish bottom, we get the number 1 pick because that's the system. The priority pick is a proactive attempt to seek a handout bc you dont believe you will succeed under the system. Whether that's true or not, it's a welfare handout we should not, as a matter of principle be seeking

To me it's like the person who waits around for their parents to pass away and take the inheritance rather than work their arses off and forge their own success

Or a bit like a person who can't get a job but is entitled to Centrelink payments but doesn't take them even if they are entitled

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

For every person who's complaining we're not asking for a priority pick there'd be at least one arguing the opposite had we asked for it.

So, assuming we don't ask for a PP, but are given one anyway, how could we knock it back ?

Typical sneaky carlton, saying we don't need picks, so that we trick the AFL into giving us picks.

Why can't we just be brave like Essendon*??

Stupid system if you have to ask for it anyway.

Our CEO thinks we should not ask for any help from AFL.
He should stop playing to the gallery its embarrassing, smart operators take advantage of any and all opportunities for the betterment of the organization. The completion is not on an even playing field.
We're perennial poor performers and need help, a PP may not be the cure to all our maladies but an additional young talent will definitely help.

You have to game the system, if the system says we warrant a PP , you @#$%&! ask for it and take it.

To not is just stupid bravado, just putting yourself behind the game in the system for no reason.

Pick 19 in this draft may have been handy but I can understand how degrading the process is to step through - having to approach the AFL essentially claiming to be incompetent, unclear on what the outcome will be, no set criteria and considering the bias against us more broadly in the media they would feast on us for weeks

Is all that worth a single pick? The club obviously thinks not

Brisbane don't at all seem fazed - aren't worried about what others think - mind-blowingly stupid why we aren't taking similar position as Brisbane
Why even telegraph our punches this far out from the end of the season :banghead:
Why isn't SUBJUDICE talking

Why would Swanny be fazed - he's getting a bucket load of AFL money to 'manage' an AFL administered 'club'.

it is the principle of it for me. why do others think we should not because we don't deserve it?
how are we different from Melbourne or Brisbane stuffing up? it's the crap being put on our club that gets to me. all clubs who get a PP have stuffed up somehow.

Knowing how dodgy all things AFL are, it wouldn’t surprise me if some sort of back room deal has been made. AFL to CFC: “don’t ask for a priority draft pick and we’ll accommodate your fixture request” or some such.

After the ridiculous salary cap penalties we received in 2002, anything on offer from the AFL must be taken. We should be asking for the next pick after our first.

If we are spanked a few more times by big margins and win only one or two games more in the 2nd half of the season, Liddle's tune regarding Priority Pick will change.
