Still 3 weeks to go, but my current guess is -

B: Simmo Jones Plowman
HB: Byrne Marchbank Cunningham
C: E Curnow Cripps SPS
HF: Fisher Weitering C Curnow
F: Wright Casboult Thomas

R: Kreuzer Kennedy Murphy

Inter: Dow Lamb Pickett SOJ

I posted this last week and I stick by it as my 22 for round 1 after tonight’s game.

There might be a positional change or two (eg. it’s going to be very interesting to see what they do with Weitering & Marchbank) but I reckon that will be the squad.

Mullett & O’Shea did OK tonight, but I would be mildly disappointed if they are selected ahead of Byrne & Cunningham.

The only way McKay should play is if Kreuzer is unavailable, IMO. Even then, I might be tempted to go with another running player instead.

Pretty good guess.
BB mentioned Garlett last night. He might get a game in front of.... maybe Cunningham. Kreuzer is not a given and Williamson will get a game but probably not for Rd 1.

Cuningham shows more versatility than Williamson IMO. Skills are better, stronger over the ball and has more pace.
He deserves to hold his place in defence for Round 1 IMHO. Plus his speed is better suited to the Tigers small forwards.

...but came good in the 2nd half.

Plowman also made a lot of blunders in the 1st half.
Come to thin k of it, so did Murphy and Thomas.

All of the above have been selected in your team.

Then there's McKay who looked dead set out of his league.

You've selected all of them in your team. Wright was one of our best just a week ago.

I think we are all looking to make room to get some of our future stars into the team, so there's pressure on spots. With Wright at the wrong end of his career he seems the next in line to make way along with Simmo and Thomas...as is ASOS and Rowe.

Its an exciting time and a season we are all looking forward to. This year with all the layers being assembled its the start of our future.

I can't wait for when the likes of Macreadie, McKay, Williamson, Garlett, Lang and OBrien are bonafide senior selections due to form, not just development.

IMO Wright has enough runs on the board and let himself down in the first half on Saturday, something I am happy to say he rarely does when the others have.

Do you really think McKay is ready to play against Rance?

I agree 100% for all those reasons you mention. Cunners looked quick whenever he got the ball on Saturday. I mean really quick of mind and foot.

I am one of the few Carlton supporters who are not convinced Williamson as a walk up start...yet. I feel I'm missing what others see.

I have seen him take runs/bounce with the ball, but he's running on his own and isn't breaking away from anyone. The good sign is that he likes to back himself and run and carry, but some suggest he's very quick because of that. Then there's his deadly left peg and I have seen too many inaccurate kicks to be convinced that its a dependable weapon...yet.

What I do accept is that for a first year player Williamson showed a lot to look forward to a great future. I love his hardness at the ball and player...but Cunners has shown much more imo.

discussing players as if we had depth...as if we had a choice...I can't wait for this year! And you know what, even if trueblu us right and we get smashed and this board goes into melt down..even then..so what...I like the players we've picked - its all about the kids...which ones rise to become the next generation of stars...Finally there is something ahead that might show us the past we have all loved and lost.

Spot on it's exuberant and exciting and I can't wait for season to get going too.
Bolton & Silvagni have put into place very solid foundations and things are moving in a positive direction.
Another couple of seasons yet but I’m very happy with the progress.

And for the most important reason; psychologically...he needs to be given the opportunity to 'belong' in the firsts otherwise he will expend his mental energy doubting his value to the side. This will destroy him.

2018...show us what you got

I see them both in the best 22 when Willo's fit.

Nothing to lose everything to gain persisting with H while he's fit, IMO.

The thing I like about willo is he seems so composed under pressure - can step, has good vision and kicks to position rather than just get it out of the area. Cunningham got better as JLT 2 went on - just not sure where his best position is.

Harry is fast on the chase but appeared to never get out on a lead and most packs he was in also contained Levi or Charlie so not sure if we are getting much. Think weitering (or macreadie???) would be better or even another small forward (Garlett) to stretch them. If they play an aggressive defence our best chance is on the fast rebound - hence perhaps Garlett

Dow does some good things but in JLT 2 was pushed off the ball a bit - not surprising given his age.
O'shea did well enough in his 1/4 (8 possies) but still back up.
Not sure about Mullet...and Lamb did some good things but fumbled a fair bit.

Anyway lets see how we go!

Yep I think the Hawthrn JTL game was preparation for Richmond with the quick rebound. Garletts in my 22.
