If our players aren't absolutely chomping at the bit watching this, then they each need a kick in the head.

Got the same feelings after every grand finals for the last 10 years,
You really need 22 players going hard at the ball to win it.

In fact, you need a great president, a great CEO, a great footy Dept, great coach, and good players. And then...... luck.

Yep. Couldn't agree more. All the above including momentum and luck.

Townsend is the worst medalist since Eccles, lucky we didn’t win 1993, as we had a few Townsend’s too.

Tigers won’t repeat this year. They had a dream ride this year.

Can’t see any fairytales next year. Maybe Melbourne if they got their shit together.

flower when you look at their bottom 6 or 7 players, you are left scratching your head. How on earth did they just do that?

Happy for the coach though. He maintained his dignity throughout the tough times.

Starting with an injury-free year like the Tiges

Don't have to the best team to win the comp

Being injury free and peaking at the right time makes a huge difference

I'm gonna be a douche and quote myself...

On paper the Tigers were the weaker side (a handful of A-graders mixed with honest workers) but they won it with tenacity and pressure.

One plus from today is that Richmond's gameplan was reminiscent of what we're bringing in (and being criticised by the numpties for), so the hope is that with experience and conditioning we can reach this same level.

Not a douche at all (well not because if that, at least...).

Very perceptive assessment Imo. That's why I'm bemused by all the angst on the site today. It goes to show that we as supporters have not yet embraced the AFL landscape of the 21st century.

Hopefully, the club has.

Essendon* and Collingwood haven't really..

Hawthorn, Geelong, and Richmond definitely have.

In my mind:- There is no excuse for us NOT to make the finals next year. Anything short of that is a failure.

And I don't buy into that whole 'Rebuild' crap anymore. We have a good list, a list that is much better than the 16th position we sit in. Don't get me wrong, I think we're on the right track, however I honestly think we need to kick it up a notch and have finals aspirations. Carlton IS finals. For us to come out next year and say 'rebuild' ' reset' 'blah blah blah'........ No. Just No.
I think we need to come out and say we wanna play finals and that's what we're aiming for.

In 2016, the Bulldogs finished 7th and won the flag, Richmond finished 13, we finished 14th.

This year, we beat GWS (premiership favorites), Sydney (Grand finalists last year) and Hawthorn (possibly the most dominant team ever) plus we took the game to the Crows, which we should have won.

Is our list that bad?
- Charlie Curnow will be in his third year, still young yes, but the Bont was a force last year at only 20. Charlie can do the same.
- Cripps, if fit, is one of the best clearance mids in the league.
- Gibbs, if he stays which i hope he will, avg 27dissposals and kicked 17 goals, in comparision Josh Kennedy avg 28disposals and kicked 16 goals.
- Marchbank, JW and (who would have thought it) Liam Jones could well be the most dominant defensive lineup in the leage.
- Daniel Rioli was the X factor Richmond needed and is only 20! SPS is our X factor and oozes more class that Rioli in my mind.
- Kreuzer - don't get me started - he was clearly AA Ruckman this year.

Maybe a case can be made that we don't have a dominant forward - but i don't really buy into that. Levi, if playing at another club, would probably kick 50 goals a year. I think it's more the fact that we don't have an attacking game plan. We're too defensive. This needs to change.

When the Bulldogs won in 2016, their leading goal kicker was Stringer with 42.
This year, Jack Riewoldt topped the Tigers list with 54.

We should draw inspiration from the 2016 and 2017 premiers - but it's time to write our own story.
