I give Murphy another year, tops, but also understand from (unsubstantiated rumours), that during his end of his season interview, he was prepared to step aside and focus on his footy.

So,.who are the real contenders that we'd like to see take the helm. Given the age of our list, the next captain could be there for a decade and be part of something pretty special.

I keep hearing Doc and Crippa, but there's another I really like.

He already has that Carlton swagger, is afraid of nothing, and is a genuine raw talent who also (I hear) is much loved by the players. There's an uncanny young 1986 Sticks Kenahan look and feel to him.

Charlie Curnow anyone?

I would say no to Charlie. let him grow and mature without added pressure.
Big yes to either Doc.
or Crippa.
Both deserving and amazing.
Doc currently more mature...but super happy with either.

Quick question.....

especially for those with kids here...!

do you think the whole Captain Carlton experiment
has worked...?

are your kids...or have your kids been swayed to
the Blues easier by his presence...?

personally I'm not offended in any way...i like the kids
involvement with pre game festivities...even the
hovercraft was fun...!

sure other clubs found it amusing...but even that's
part of the fun and pre game banter...!

so...what do the parents have to say...?

Captain Carlton...yay...ney...?

kindest regards tommi

Yes, for under 10s.

My daughter still gets a kick out of him. My 12yo son, less so

Cripps or Docherty are obvious choices.

I think Ed Curnow would be another good choice.

Charlie Curnow or Jacob Weitering further down the track.

I want leaders with a little bit of mongrel who aren't ever afraid to put their bodies on the line and aren't scared of making their presence felt out on the field both verbally and physically.

Doc captain and Cripps VC.

Agreed. The Doc is a thinker and tough as nails. Our Hodgey if you like. Prefer not to put it onto Cripps. Let him just play without any extra burden.

Probably Doc rather than Cripps
re: Captain Carlton (and the female version?) my girls (3, 6 12) were completely nonplussed.
They love the acrobatics but seeing a player up close makes a much bigger impact.

Plowman is a left field option for me.

Yeah, he’s a bit similar to Simpson, he’s not the obvious choice but we really should have made Kade captain instead of Murphy.

I like Cripps as the next captain. Big imposing mid/forward who can grab a game by the scruff of the neck. Very marketable as well which is a big requirement.
