i think the thread has become a good indicator that most people here are reasonable and intelligent enough to support the club on the matter

I wonder if all those outraged by the club not telling them how to vote would be ok with their child's school telling them how to vote? Or their local church?

Really, if you are such a snowflake that you need the comfort and validation of every person and institution you are involved in to tell you that you are voting the correct way, then I feel pity for you.

To plagiarise others here, "I'm outraged by the outrage".

Various posters have come out with the YES support vote.

Does that make the NO vote the silent minority?

It appears whenever a NO supporter pops his/her head up he/her gets it bashed in by the other side.

Doesn't mean I am for or against by the way. Just an observation.

I think most "outraged" people are simply confused why the club felt it needed to make a statement at all, particularly one that was basically "Vote yes or no, whatevers *shrug*".

I just don't understand why they came out to make such a wishy-washy statement. It's akin to calling a press conference to declare there's nothing to talk about.

I think the only people who have had their heads bashed in over the years have been gay and lesbian people, in terms of their sexuality being the issue. Luckily gay bashing is not an accepted norm anymore although I am sure it still goes on.

Can't remember too many conservatives caring about that.

Australia used to be about 12-24 months behind America in social behavior. Now, thanks to social media and the interweb, that figure is in hours.

I expect the Carlton Antifa to be attacking the club any minute now.

If you read the club statement, it actually calls for people to actually vote (or whatever it is called) and have their say.
It then indicates which way the club leans (what or who is "the club" anyway?) but respects that people will make their own decision.
If that outrages you, you have to consider if you want to live in a democracy anyway.

Like the silent majority? Perhaps too scared to voice their opinion for fear of attack by the lunatic left.

its nice to see the club come out and take no position. Why alienate people???

This argument that by either supporting the issue or not supporting the issue the club is somehow forcing people to vote a particular way is nonsensical. Voting is a personal responsibility, its not compulsory to vote on this issue either. The lunatic Right are trying to convince people that their freedom of speech is somehow under threat because and that they can't speak up. What nonsense.

Young 18 year old girl voiced her NO opinion on facebook "its ok to say NO" and got sacked by her yes boss.

Losing her job for a facebook post? And what was the job ... kids party planning. Sheesh.

Whatever way you vote, there are a pushy lot of YES people in this matter.

Proud of the Blues for their statement, upset at the controversy and feeling validated in my perception of the media by the faux outrage they've manufactured. Most of the online comments on Facebook etc have followed a well trodden emotive path with comments in either direction but at least equal support for the statement. I wonder how many of those 'outraged' actually buy Carlton memberships. I can understand Jamo being upset as his Brother is Gay and Jamo has been a longtime supporter of Gay rights, fair play to the guy, this has been one of his longterm causes and to say anything other than what he did would be disingenuous. I respect his position regarding the Club Statement but I respectfully disagree with him.

To the upset person threatening to cancel their membership in response to the Club Statement, I'll buy an extra one next year to cancel your protest vote out, don't let the door hit you on the way out !
