Finally got a chance to see the game. Felt a bit sorry for Jones. He was certainly beaten by a better player on the day, but didn't deserve to have 10 goals kicked on him. Wasn't actually too bad in the marking contests against Buddy.
Pros:
Terrific 2nd quarter.
Kreuzer, Simmo and Docherty.
Boekhorst was very good. Liked that he gave a couple of frees away for unnecessary contact, given he's sometimes allergic to body contact.
Charlie and Weitering.
Cons:
Capitulated in the last 45 minutes.
Way too many players who didn't contribute.
Use of the ball into our forward 50 was terrible.
I know you expect a pretty one-sided performance when playing at an interstate venue, but I thought the umpiring was diabolical. How many free kick goals did Sydney receive? In their defensive 50, they were allowed to grapple and block and push in every marking contest. Or tackle players high. But in their forward 50, they seemed to get a very generous run. And it certainly makes clearances and ball movement much easier when one side is allowed to throw the ball at will. And yet the only 3 throwing decisions came against Carlton players: Murphy, Charlie and Kerridge.
