Plenty of discussion around Levi/Simmo/Murphy. Their games were probably not as bad as discussed nor as good. Agree mistakes are made by many throughout the course of the game but it's the ones in the last qtr that linger.

The moments that stood out for me involved 2 of our youngest players:

SOJ 3rd qtr OOF and the behind in the last. His set shots are not at the level we would like. Is it technique or fatigue?

Weiters struggled one on one against Hooker in the last. Hope he becomes better at the physical element of the game.

Finally l hope Simmo does go around again and reaches his 300. Perhaps a different role or position for the wily one could be found

No, he's performing a vital role while the young players develop.

In terms of the b&f, his role in this rebuilding team requires play being directed predominantly through him, Gibbs, Docherty, Simpson and Cripps, so there's not much chance of him not getting high possessions (unless tagged) and thus always being in the votes.

Then again maybe he's getting votes because he's one of the best players in our team. I'm sure if he was given the choice he'd rather be playing in our 95 team instead of today.

Probably, because Docherty is going to win the B&F

Oh but it's a meaningless award so winning it would only confirm what a mediocre player Docherty is....

Maybe I am a sugarcoater but whilst we didn't win and disappointed given 6 th game of season where we hit the front in the last quarter to lose I thought yesterday was full of merit
Thought SPS really was good and for the first time other than glimpses Pickett looked like a player
Charlie and Jack continue to develop
I know Hooker took a few marks but thought Weiters looked better more creative
Think it really is not sensible to bake a 19 year old giving away significant kilos to a 27 year old key position forward -in 2 years time he will murder Hooker
Jones was outstanding given Danihers start and recent form
March better this week he and plowman solid games

Good games from Murph Kreuz Docherty Jones

Our second 11 Boker Dennis Smedts tried hard but ultimately barely break even or quarantine damage rather than pro active
A good effort give first quarter had all the hallmarks of a thrashing
Need more talent but also can't have injuries as depth is not there

A

What was Smedts role yesterday?

Pretty good effort.
Just starting to accept defeat.
That's 11 good games of footy this year.

Add Cripps and Ed Curnow and we would win.
I'm glad BB can close down a game and give us control of tempo.
Speed of Pickett was a flicker of what we need.
If we replace Boeky Smedts Graham Kerridge with class...we are a finalist.

SPS was my highlight.
Fisher showed plenty to look forward to.
Jones is a STAR of the comp. no question.

Our 3 No 1s gave us plenty of drive.
Our No 4 will learn from that. He's class we will be grateful to have in a year or 2 plus 10.

Whether it's next year or the next, have to get use to a team without Cas and Simmo.
We are heading into a new era. I think out 4 x No 1s will feature in our rise.

Too right.

He's a smart forward with clean skills. Closest thing we have to Betts

watched the 2nd and 3rd qtrs

can't fault the effort but what horrible footy that game was

awful skills and decision making

Bolton better tidy this up next year and produce some clean and attacking footy

SPS and Jones good

Wright is so reliable

I might be in the minority here but I actually saw a few encouraging signs from Boek. I recall a few instances of little 1%ers but the main one that stood out was one occasion where an Essendon* player (possibly Hooker on one of his 15 shots at goal in the last) had the ball on the 50 after a mark and was looking to handball off to Daniher, however BB was smart enough to recognize it and block Joe's run and it never eventuated. Nothing huge but I really value things like that when the game is on the line.

I think he shows something as well.
Unfortunately for him, we are not playing the style of footy that suits his speed.
Also, he looks like Freddy Mercury.
That has to be a minus.

I agree that was good from him but it's too little from a player in his third season. A declining game talley of 11, 7 and 4 isn't the trend of an improving player. Don't forget he was a mature aged rookie to start with I think.

I've said it before so sorry if I am being a bit of a broken record but he just gets pushed off the ball so easily / buffeted out of the contest.

14 possessions.
Only 2 contested.
Zero clearances.
Even if his role as an outside runner doesn't require clearances and contested work, his disposal efficiency of just 50% on the outside in his uncontested possessions wasn't good.

His 5 tackles were a sign of his effort on the positive side.

As I said in an earlier post however it was a great game with great signs from many and I am very happy with the effort and direction of our boys and our coaches.

GO BLUES!

That game reminded me of a generic 90s/2000s close loss to Essendon*

Played pretty well
Got in front
Late goal to them
Brave Bombers
Media ban for the rest of the weekend
Still gutted

One thing that has pleased me this year is our ability to adjust and get back into games where we have fallen well behind. Pity we didn't end up winning alot of those but it shows and ability to stem the tide with our ability to shut the opposition down and play defensively.

Hopefully the is our Plan B next year.

Zac Merrett can accept 1 game, striking LPlowman.
Joe Daniher can accept $1500 sanction, striking BBoekhorst.
