Don't underestimate Astbury. He's playing excellent intercept footy.
If we can use 2 of Casboult, Weitering or Charlie to work up on the lead and seperate their tall defenders, it will help our cause.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Castagna lose his spot this week but their other small forwards are providing an impact. Just inconsistently. I suppose Jones will go to Riewoldt, even those he's not an ideal match up.

I'd like to see a player like Buckley or Sheehan come in to play on Rioli or Buttler.

We just don't kick enough goals to win this one.

They don't kick many either. We're up to our ears in this.

GWS kick more goals than the tigers, we seemed to acquit ourselves pretty well against them.

even in the 1st round when they touched us up ... we were pretty even all over the ground. we just couldn't contain their fleet of small forwards, and they tackled our slow, immobile backline.

With rowe gone, we're not as immobile. we could probably swap out one of our mediums for somene who can keep up with their mosquito fleet. pickett on rioli would work.

Casboult is super important to our structures even when he's spraying them all over the shop, too important to drop him due to 3-4 glaring errors.

Demands a quality defender and/or double team.
Crashes packs hard, making defenders uncomfortable. I note that opposition defences put a lot of effort into blocking his run at the marking contest because he's so damaging.
Provides decent relief for Kreuzer in the ruck.
Is very useful as a get-out target up on the wings.

Too much positive media for my liking for this one....
In years gone by, a Robert Walls just needed to pen an inkling of a feel good story to a player(s) and they'd capitulate the next week.
A couple of good efforts in recent weeks has shown some solid resilience by the boys
Toiges are get-able but will be interesting to see how much bathwater gets drunk in the coming days.

re team lineup - How would a Pickett v Rioli match up go (in place of Willow)?

Was thinking the same re pickett..his finish is a real issue atm so needs to stop and pass it to someone before goal area. But could be useful. Would love to see byrne! Buckley has similar issues to pickett but I stil have faith in him.

Rioli has a good tank on him now and Pickett a pre-season behind.

Yep I agree.
Wouldn't be surprised if this match turns out to be a bit of a let down for us.

Nor are we leaking many goals this year.

We didn't win by kicking bags of goals vs GWS or Gold Coast. Our defence and rebound from our 50 has been very very strong especially in the last 4 or so weeks.

Richmond currently average 12.5 goals a game............. Essendon*, GWS, Sydney, Collingwood and Gold Coast all have a higher average than them.

Nullify Jack and Dusty and they don't have many other options. I wonder if they might recall Ben Lennon? He's kicked 20+goals in the VFL this season?

The two things that cost us in round one were their small forwards against our oversupply of tall defenders and not tagging Dustin Martin. Curnow has tagged someone every week since then and will play a negative role on Martin. We've been playing one less tall defender in recent weeks plus Plowman has grown into his role so we should be able to defend a bit better. There's no way Rance will play as bad as he did in round one again though.

Did anyone else notice in the Suns game on TV how Richo kept going on about the space Doc and Simmo had and making comments about how the teams Carlton play in the next few weeks need to stop that free footy etc etc....

Not exactly rocket science but sounded like a message to Hardwick.

Be interesting to see how Tigers match up on them.

Casboult has to stay for mine.

When was the last time both Simmo and Doc had a bad game? Play tight on these two and Marchbank will have a 30 possession 500m game.
As Chris Scott said, running hbfs are not our deficiency
