Quote:
Warren "Wow" Jones, who would play the game of his life in the 1982 grand final, recalls a moment involving Doull from that very game.

"He hadn't spoken to me in about five years, and at quarter-time I've grabbed a couple of oranges out of the bucket and I'm counting the pips as Parkin's talking. Suddenly, Brucey tapped me on the shoulder and I thought 'Shit! Bruce is going to ask me for some advice or something.' I said 'Yes Bruce?' and he said, 'Mate, you're standing on my toe'!"

I've said it elsewhere that our 79-82 sides never get their due.

Thanks to a journos like Tom Prior (the Mark Robinson/Rohan Connolly of his day  ) who always had a bit of tug over the Essendon* 84/85 side, they gave the Carlton side short shrift.

There is an article by Rohan Connelly on The Age or SMH websites.

6 flags in 15yrs from 1968 - 1982 is as good as anything I've seen since. Especially since it could easily have been 7 had we not had our family spat which stuffed up 1980 (although the Tigers were excellent for that year...).
There is an argument to say it was reflective of a dominant club, more so than the Hawk's 5 flags in 9 years, given they more or less had the same core throughout that period whereas we pretty much had two different teams from the circa 1970 period and 10 years later.
And when I was growing up, everyone wanted to be a Carlton fan.

Sorry about that - it worked in China. The article in the Age covered it well and there was also a news item in iView.

Is it one of those places with the balloons hanging outside with the writing on the window:

"Book store and Thai Massage".

I know those places...or at least I have seen them.
