From memory, at the 2000 B&F night Elliott had a crack at Hamill because his manager was playing hard ball negotiating a new contract. Elliott said Hamill was ungrateful because we had taken him as a late draft pick from the ACT and developed him into a good player, we gave him the famous #4 jumper and spent a small fortune to get him off at the tribunal so he could play in the '99 GF.

Hamill apparently didn't like it and jumped to St Kilda (for much more money and a longer contract than we were offering). It was a big deal at the time because nobody ever left Carlton that we wanted to keep. In hindsight, it was something of a turning point.
