I've been told by a reliable source that we're apparently into Dusty. Whilst I'd prefer we go for Josh Kelly, at least we don't give up our first round pick by going after a free agent. Which would obviously be consistent with the apparent Silvagni plan to build a Premiership list via the draft.

Make Tiges pay 'overs'?? Fair enough

We're a year or even 2 away from being able to extract maximum value from a FA.

We want their best years when we're in 'the window' and 4 or 5 of their best years not 2 years after which they might be broken down hacks.

Short term fixes are back at the Board if that's true.

If this is true... (and I am skeptical) this is disappointing from a board that has finally got it right in the last few years

This is the same poster who said Marchbank to the Saints was a done deal.
Or Menzel was staying put. End of story.
No way Josh Green was leaving the Lions?

Forget about murmurs from the board. More likely rumblings from the toilet cubicle.

Logudice must have taken the Board to Larry Mendonca's Rahj Sahib Indian Restaurant for a dodgy Beef Vindaloo.

Apparently (according to Ch7) us and the Aints have the largest cap space in the comp.

First of all, this alone shows the value of SOS compared to those previously in charge of our "list management".

But when you factor in this, the improved performances, a coach that everyone wants to play for, and now 4 RS noms in 2 months, we are suddenly one @#$%&! attractive looking club to be a part of.

Doc is out of contract next year, need to tie him down long term with good money. Silvagni and Willo also ooc next year.

We're in a fantastic position though.

Very true Donstuie but as you know, the media functions on short term memory. This week we are the talk of the town and our players are looking the goods. After one bad loss, we will be lacking depth and have a game style that is easy to counter. Remember, 10 games ago, we weren't going to win a game this year.
As Bolton says, never get too high and never get too low. The media will do that for us.

Also to be fair, we are probably better off than any other club for injuries. We've been very fortunate to date. We'll get our turn and when we do, it will be interesting to see how we fare. And to see how we're represented in the media.

Yep, look at someone like Jon Ralph, more interested in talking about Bryce's contract than any analysis of what is making Carlton a better team tactically. Commentators in our games have yet to realise teams perform poorly against us due to our defence rather that the other team having an "off" day. AFL media are the tattered glossy mag from November 2014 in the mechanics waiting room. Not interested in facts or analysis, out of date and likely to give you a rash if you touch them.

I don't want to see Mark Robinson as "Homie of the Week" that's for sure.

Official: 20% increase in CBA
Quote:
AFL PLAYERS will receive a 20 per cent pay rise this year after a new $1.84 billion dollar, six-year pay deal was announced in Adelaide on Tuesday afternoon.

The bumper pay rise lifts the average player wage from $309,000 to $371,000 and the player salary cap from $10.37m to $12.45m.

In 2022, the final year of the agreement, the average player wage will be $389,000 with a salary cap of $13.54m.

The 20 per cent figure, first reported by AFL.com.au in March, will be followed by rises of 1.2 per cent (2018), 1.3 per cent (2019) and two 2 per cent in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The deal was voted on by the players on Tuesday afternoon and signed off by AFL Players Association CEO Paul Marsh with overwhelming support of the League's 850 players.

AFL chairman Richard Goyder declared the historic six-year agreement was a significant win-win for both the players and the game's governing body.

AFLPA president Matthew Pavlich said the players were thrilled to receive a fixed share of industry revenue, with the deal giving the players a 28 per cent share of defined AFL un-forecast revenue.

Makes the decision to re-sign many of our young stars now all the smarter.

Spot on. I used to read every article in every paper of the sports section as a teenager. Now I glance over it and mostly don't bother. I watch one game a weekend these days and I feel like I know as much about the game as they do.

Players Wages will go up which probably means Memebership costs will increase.

If the rumour is true suddenly the 66 game rebuild (4drafts) becomes a 33 game rebuild(2 drafts). We have progressed enormously but we are no where near it from a list perspective. There is an ageing midfield and no forward line to speak of. If we have to give up multiple high draft picks for stars that will make us an 8-10 side in the next 3 seasons before they become veterans themselves, what is the benefit? If its a free agent with no picks involved, that would be great. If we are forced to effectively trade Gibbs for Kelly that is ok. However for the first time in our history, we are good at drafting. You don't want to walk away from a strength that yields the greatest long term success
