Carlton ruckman Andrew Phillips sidelined with foot injury

Andrew Phillips has a foot injury that will sideline him for most of the pre-season.

Senior Sports Writer

Carlton ruckman Andrew Phillips could miss the start of the season proper after the discovery last week of a hot spot in his foot.

Phillips, a success story in 2016 in his first season at Princes Park after moving from Greater Western Sydney, could be sidelined for at least eight weeks, which would be a major setback for his round-one availability against Richmond in March.

Scans late last week revealed the stress reaction, which could have led to a fracture if he continued pre-season training despite soreness.

Phillips will require further scans next month, but his minimum rehabilitation period is believed to be four weeks, meaning he is unlikely to be a pre-season practice match participant.

Phillips, 25, played 16 games for the Blues last year either side of a hamstring injury, after playing his first 14 senior games with the Giants over three seasons.

Bad news.

Terrific. If there is an area that has not been covered yet by trades or drafts it is the ruck. So who goes down, our most promising ruck.

You could pick it couldn't you.

No knock on Phillips but we play alot better when we have just one ruck and Casboult doing the ruck duties. Kreuzer certainly plays better and Casboult plays alot better. imagine it would be similar of Phillips was our one ruck. Our 4 best performances of last year was when Phillips didn't play due to his hamstring.

Agree as long as Kruezer is available should help with structure and hopefully means games into McKay!

He came as one of a 4 player package in one trade so I think the overall trade has gone pretty well.

Carlton hopeful Patrick Cripps will be fit to start 2017 season as he recovers from back injury

CARLTON star onballer Patrick Cripps is on track to take on Richmond in Round 1 as he recovers from a serious back injury.

The 2015 best and fairest winner was struck down by a stress reaction in November but has responded well to treatment, according to football manager Andrew McKay.

LOCKOUT? Blues’ AFLW opener to test capacity

IDOL: The Juddy fan who’s dreaming of wearing Navy Blue

“Patrick Cripps has been travelling really well actually, he’s back running on the grass, which is fantastic,” McKay said.

“He is still in line for Round 1, so we are very confident he will get to the line and play some good footy (against the Tigers)”.

barass70 on BigFooty says he is on track and resumed light training. Has a pretty good reputation/track record regarding info. ie. not full of shit.

Phillips set to miss 8 weeks

Carlton ruckman Andrew Phillips has been placed on the Club’s long-term injury list, after suffering a stress reaction in his left foot.

While the big man will not require surgery, Phillips will be sidelined for approximately eight weeks after seeing a specialist earlier this week.

The Club has not named a replacement for Phillips at this stage.
