Open or closed training sessions will have very little impact. Carlton supporters are hugely different to the likes of Richmond, Collingwood and Essendon*** supporters. Those teams have their supporters sign up as members no matter what. Carlton supporters need their club to meet all sorts of requirements before they sign as members. We're collectively above those other clubs. Superior and much smarter. More entitled.
Hate to say it, but I'm in agreement on this. You can't tell me that Richmond supporters haven't had the same grumbles as us in their last three success-free decades. Yet they still sign up.

And for those using the "been burned too many times" argument, our numbers were shit then as well.

Richmond supporters are not known for buying reserved seats ,they also sell alot of 3/5 game memberships .If memberships were just counted as 11 game or 17 game ( i am not advocating that) you will see our membership numbers are not far behind Richmond For many years we never tried to sell 3 or 5 game membership only recently we realised that a membership a membership

Fair effort indeed.

It seems our membership numbers have stalled and behind 2016 numbers for the same period.

Asking/Performing a request for supporters to become members is a good idea and entertaining too.

Seriously though the club needs to do more than that to raise interest. Is there direction?

We are in the footy business.
Footy is our core business.

Think about all the discussion that's taken place in the last week, a other than the fact the AFL have continued to promote the opening of the season, we have and are hearing and seeing nothing exciting from players or coaches for the last 6 months. This non engagement is not going to generate interest let alone members.

I was in Melbourne all last week, and other than the opening of the season on Thursday, I saw the continuation of no promotion of our club, our players or our coaches. That is not putting Carlton on the map.

What have we had to endure during the preseason?

Carlton finished on a terrible note against undermanned Bombers, and go into the preseason with no momentum (Alarm bells to promotion dept)
No open training.
No 'good' media articles.
No news on our development plan and achievements.
Criticism of the Gibbs debarcle.
Marchbank acquired yeah!!! Tuohy the cost, booo.
Palmer and Smedts to add experience
Cripps' stress fractures interrupt his preseason and season 2017
Doubts cast on Fisher for his size and our needs.
No open training.
Warning to supporters 2017 will not be as good as 2016.
Barker can't believe how well the new kids have taken to the game plan.
Barker says Coaches understand the new game plan better this year.
Carlton opening women's game alock out and a win. Thank god for the girls.
SPS injury.
Disastrous JLT.
No improvement in Casboult and his kicking.
Daisy's contract.
Palmer doesn't make first 22.
Dwayne and Fox mates suggest Carlton sould not be opening the season because they are terrible to watch.
Predictions we wont win a game.
Open training before game gives us a glimpse of players at 3/4 pace having shots at goal and autographs for the 50 supporters.
Carlton bleeds 132 points against. Highest score against Carlton against Tigers since 1971. We've lost our 2016 gains.
Matt Lloyds public belting
President says Lloyd uninformed....that's our only promotion.
Where to play Weitering.
Kings' criticsm of Carlton's list and year ahead
Jonathon Brown suggests public shouldn't take much from Tigers because have a look at who they played: Carlton
Cornes sticks the boots in.
Pickett interview on website...he's hoping for more chances...doesn't sound promising
Fraser hoping NB's do well this year.

That's just from the top of my head. Club has done no significant promotion and allowed the media to dominate with a negative image of Carlton.

Where's the promotion of the class of 2015?
Where's the promotion of the class of 2016?
Where's the promotion of our 2017 Green shoots.

I know this post could be in the "Give us some hope thread", but I want to pint out why the club will fail miserably with their membership drive in 2017 without engaging our members and without promotion and insight of our "Journey".

Ask anyone about our journey thus far, and they will give you an opinion. That is not a reflection of the club manifesto or any promotional activity on the website, or media.

The Promotions Dept is doing a good job making Carlton irrelevant, and keeping Carlton irrelevant as are its detractors Lloyd, King, Cornes.
What do the think the kids are seeing and feeling about all the negative news.

I can't keep spruiking the club if the club isn't doing any.
The club has fallen behind and it will take a mammoth promotional effort to attract members.

So disappointing. Echo Echo Echo........cricket

Doesn't really explain the reason why we've fallen so far behind the pack over the past 15 years.

get used to it. Won't change until people stop crying like life owes them something or we start winning.

Given the non-stop sooking on this forum, we just need to start winning.

WTF?

What happens if we don't start winning? Do we wait? Do we give up?
Do we believe everything said about the club...and its only the media jerks, but its out there.

I think you miss the point.

I'm stating the obvious. There is not enough promotion from the club about the club.
All we are hearing is what the club allows us to hear...King, Cornes, Lloyd....crapping on our team.

We,the supporters can do what you suggest cimm and just wait till we start winning, but the Carlton PR machine can help.
It is NOT about US

No other club would stand for it. Where's the good news in the media?

I'm welded on.

It is not about the members, it is about the club and promotion of the club, the brand. Their job! Not ours.

I've worked in Marketing, promoted when the tide is against us, rolled out smoke and mirrors, turned failures into positives...you know...spin. It works for you, not against you.

It's a fact of life. Club needs to lift its game promoting the brand, and getting in the ears of media so they write something positive, so the kids hear some good things amongst the plethora of negativity and doom for our club.

Despite Kerna's failure in the past, he was able to strike a deal with the HS for some puff pieces, later with Caro. It was a good thing. The supporters loved it

I don't care about the win losses. I care about what people think of us, especially the young blues, and there is a void of good news and engagement.

I think it was 44,819 on 24th March 2016, may have been more on the 29th March.

We are behind.

I'm concerned there's nothing happening on the PR front whilst we are getting slammed day in day out in the media.
