Good games from Cripps, Tuohy, Docherty, Curnow, Simpson, Weitering. Positive signs and good experience for Boekhorst, Silvagni, Plowman, Buckley, Graham. Big effort in the tagging role on Mitchell by Kerridge. Free kick Hawthorn. Same as last week, the drop in intensity at the start of the third quarter killed us. |

Pros: Fantastic defensive intensity, and willingness to tackle. Didn't drop their bundle after Hawthorn kicked 4 in a row. Kerridge was fantastic, even though he dropped a chest mark in front of goal. Superb effort again from the midfield group. Likewise from the defensive group. Great effort to keep Hawthorn to a low score (even though that was a little flattered by their poor kicking at goal). Kreuzer's played 2 good games in a row. And he actually looked dangerous in the marking contests. Good 2nd half from SOJ. Encouraging performances from Phillips and Buckley. Cons: I'm a Sumner fan, but he had a shocker. Graham tackled well, but his ball-handling was poor. |

Defense stood tall under immense pressure for long periods. Odd Clanger very costly but hawks are very good. Crippa absolute star again. Kerridge done good job on Mitchell. Smith & Burgoyne killed us through the middle. Our rucks took some good marks and had scoring opportunities but McEvoy/Ceglar done it better as they were more efficient. Didn't take our chances and bombed it to Gibson/Frawley & co way to much. Everitt and Boekhorst are two of our quickest players but both seem to run around in second gear way to much. Maybe it's a fitness thing but quite often they let opponents run off or they pull up to tackle rather than get the hardball. Casboult didn't turn up till mid way through the final term. Just having an injury/frustration plagued season. Weitering appears to get injured on a weekly basis, might need a break. Overall we competed against the ladder leaders. |

Same old same old. Too deep at both ends. It's so obvious on TV. We continually go too deep in the flood and when we kick it out they are lined up for the uncontested mark and back in it comes. Then at the other end we just bomb it in and hope we can keep it in there by pressing so deep that when they kick it out they are lining up for it again. There must have been twenty times they just cruised out of the defensive fifty unopposed and kicked it to players twenty metres in the clear. They set up so much better than we do and that isn't the players' fault. There is NO forward structure at all as evidenced by Gibson and Burgoyne just patrolling the 50 marking everything in sight. We are 18th in the comp for goals from inside fifties and it's easy to see why. Bomb it from the wing so it is a shallow entry where the opposition sweepers just mark in 48 out and then it's an easy inside fifty the other way for the opposition down the middle. happened so often I just sat glumly and waited for the next time. Not the players' fault. If they are going to play bomb it to Kernahan, they need to get a power forward. Casboult can hardly walk. Great effort again by the boys but no chocolates. Two patches of a few minutes made up the difference largely. We need to stack up on midfielders and hope McKay and Curnow can mark the long bombs. Silvagni great tackling game tonight. Best effort we have seen in his short time in the ones. All he has to do now is learn how to kick those tricky ones from 15 out in the pocket. Best game we have seen from Kreuzer for a while but Phillips still shaded him as our better ruckman. He is improving every week and for mine is clearly now our best ruck. Hawthorn shit me. They play the game on the borders of legal all the time. They are forever knocking players over after they kick it, sniping in the clinches and getting away with murder. The free against Lewis for holding Cripps, I think it was where he argued with the umpire and Mitchell came and joined in is intimidating for the umpires and they should just give fifty for backchatting. But they constantly get away with it and that's why they get the frees in the clinch moments. I think the umpires are actually scared of them. They played a shit game tonight against a gallant opposition but they are going for the Fourthawn. Put Cyril and Puopolo in that team tonight and they are a much slicker outfit. |

Good effort, lost in the first 10 minutes after half time, same as last week. Just lack polish and a big forward, Casboult was clearly injured so that didn't help. Cripps is a star and Jack will be a very good player. Happy with effort but getting sick of these close losses. Good of Lewis to give credit to Carlton in his interview after the game, flog. |

Carlton has a good supporter base in Tassie so it makes sense. I just hope if we do travel there again that the AFL only gives us 4 interstate games so we only have to travel 5 times and not 6 like this year. |
