It's not a new story.

These guys spend years in a bubble being told their shit doesn't stink and then one day they leave the bubble and someone points out that it does.

Some didn't believe it in the first place and are fine.

Some realise that it's true and adjust accordingly.

Some can't accept it and lose their shit all over the place.

Not hard to work out where Stevens sits.

Change from what?

If NS Had a gun son would we pick him up in the draft. Sure we would.

The question I ask is would that make our opinion of NS change now that we love his son.

To me it is a conundrum. Does the apple fall far from the tree. Hypothetical.

Are you suggesting a man should be punished for the sins of his father? Do you think we should declare war on Germany and Japan?

Interesting comparison you draw. This is not on topic but ...

Germany makes an effort to teach its younger generation about the horrors of WW2 and the atrocities of the Nazis.
Japan tries to absolves itself from the horrors it committed in WW2. The current defence minister Tomomi Inada is an apologist for the Japanese army during WW2. From Wikipedia: "In 2015, when Prime Minister Abe prepared the statement on 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, Inada said, "No need to express the word like remorse", "stop continuing to apologize [to China and other Asian countries]", "military invasion is not appropriate word [to express the Japanese action in Asian countries before the end of the war]"

And who is Australia aligning itself with ?

Of course I feel sadder for his Mrs...

You feel sorry for Nick??

Ffs, you should see the facial scar the poor woman has from where he slammed her head into the bench .

The dog should have got 24 months at minimum.

I also feel sorry for his poor ex partner who he used as a punching bag. I do not feel an iota of sympathy for Nick. He's an Aussie lad. There is no excuse for his behaviour. And three months is a national disgrace and truly shows our lack of compassion for victims of family violence.

I have extensive experience in this field as I work for Child Protection in a specialised Family Violence team.

Our courts give out such pathetic sentences to perpetrators of violence and sexual abuse that you'd think the Magistrates must be doing it as well

And yet, to some, Germany is just being weak and societal issues they're having is a symptom of that

Easy to be self righteous and judgemental.....................went to my local supermarket this morning and walked smackbam into a former superstar number one draft pick,No names,no pack drill.Bloke would be near forty by now.Guess what,he was with his MUM,doing the shopping. This is what this poor soul has been reduced to.Cant by a carton of milk without his mums help.I have known the bloke from when he was four years of age.Always spoke to me with great respect from a young age and does to this day. This guy had all the expectations and pressure from 14 years of age and unfortunately from him has not handled it well. But despite his problems, does not whinge or cry and more importantly treats others with respect no matter there standing in life............us ordinary folk need to walk in their shoes before we make judgement.Everything is easy from afar.

I appreciate what you're saying, but where was his support network (it's not just his Mum's responsibility) to help him see how the real world works when he was younger? Where was the club he played for in educating him and helping him transition into a life beyond football, whether that be education, readiness for employment etc?

To call him "a poor soul" absolves him and all around him of any responsibility for his predicament.

I appreciate where you're coming from, and I agree, any kicks shouldn't be aimed at him in your case, but at the support network around him. It's failed him big time and I also feel sympathy for him if that's what his life is these days

Really thoughtful thing to say.

There is this misconception that athletes and and as us keyboard warriors put it "People paid good money to do what they love" are somehow happier more content and without the problems and pressures that we all face. It's sometimes harder for them.

If this guy nearing forty can't do grocery shopping without his mum's help someone needs to have a good talk to his mum. I suspect she may well be part of the problem.

Nick Stevens has had enough exposure to the world to work out that smashing your girlfriend's head into a wall is not appropriate behaviour.

@#$%&! him.
