What he is doing is admirable. Without a visual record of past matches what is there to record the deeds of past players but words? Silvagni won the best and fairest in that year...ever wondered why? Here is the evidence which he is uncovering. If Channel 7 hadn't deleted all the records then peole like Crawf wouldn't be needed. |

Crawfie is a Hawthorn supporter who onsells these videos he asks other people for as a money making exercise. He collects them from well meaning preservationists and then uses them for his own profit. Which is why he keeps posting and posting on every footy forum he can. Crawf is not needed. People who collect and preserve these videos for the right reasons are what is needed. |

People who collect and preserve these videos for the right reasons are what is needed. That is one way of looking at it. I take your point. My argument is that if Channel 7 had done its job and preserved football footage as it was supposed to...as it was/is the custodian of the game ....then none of this would be needed. Contrast the professionalism of preserving football footage of the NFL (you can watch full championship matches between New York Giants etc from the 1940s) to the AFL and there is a chasm wider than the Grand Canyon. Let's say you wanted to watch an ordinary finals match or even some grand finals - one that was recorded by Channel 7 - you have a good chance of never seeing it again. Channel 7 deleted their records of the majority of matches. Let's say you wanted to watch the game that Kernahan kicked 10 goals in a match, or Jesaulenko kicked 10 goals in or when Doull was unstoppable...or you pick it...the footage is most likely gone forever. This article provides some limited insight into the situation. There are other articles that provide insight into the problem. Effectively, Carlton's history has gone down the gurgler. http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv- ... z3vRNYu0BO I would rather someone preserving whatever remains and creating a groundswell of interest than not preserving it. From little things big things grow...one hopes. |
