Our trading period saw a number of complicated trades. In tracking these, I’ve tried to summaris all of them into essentially 3 trades. Happy for any feedback/correction!

Trade 1

Lost : Lachie Henderson, Troy Menzel

Gained: Harry McKay (Pick 10), Kerridge, Plowman, Lamb, Sumner, Phillips

Rationale: The 1st Round 2016 pick we got for Henderson was traded to GWS with picks 28 (which we got from Adelaide for Menzel) ,77 and 95. In return we got Pick 8 (became pick 10), Lamb, Sumner and Phillips.

Note: Picks 77 & 95 were “used” by GWS as part of the point buy system for Academy players

Trade 2

Lost: Tom Bell, Pick 21 (became pick 26 - Kieran Collins Bulldogs), Pick 41 (became Pick 47 Sam Skinner, Lions)

Gained: Charlie Curnow (12), 3rd round pick 2016, Pick 60 (which we used to ‘buy’ SOSOS)

Rationale: The pick 21 (became 26) we gained for Bell we on-traded with our existing pick 20 (became 25) to Bulldogs for Dunkley (pick 25), Collins (26) . In return we got pick 12 and a 3rd rounder 2016

Trade 3
Lost: Chris Yarran

Gained: David Cuningham (Pick 23)

EDITED 27/11 to add Sam Skinner into Trade 2

I think that for where the list and performance was at and what was needed to resurrect this team it has been a very fruitful trade and draft period. Significant turnover and the introduction of mostly young talent with fantastic upside.

This may not be realised for some time but certainly has generated a sense of hope.

Well done Blues!

You've left out our third round pick in the Bell trade (which we sent to Brisbane), as well as the future 4th rounder we sent to the Dogs.

Think it might have been the pick Brisbane used for Rhys Mathieson.

EDIT: No, it partially paid for Ben Keays, they then paid the difference with their second round pick, which became pick 49, which then became pick 47 by the time the draft reached that point, and they picked Skinner.

They paid for Mathieson with a marginally downgraded (end of second round) pick that came back to them after matching the Hipwood bid.

In short, trade 2 was a net loss in terms of players/picks.

It depends on whether Curnow becomes an elite FF or midfielder or a flashy, injury prone, behaviourly challenged player

Thanks Jimmae. i've added in Pick 47 (originally 41) which we gave to Brisbane as part of the Bell trade.

And we didn't give a fourth rd pick in 2016 to the Bulldogs. We gained their 3rd round pick in 2016.

Should in my view analyse trade draft DFA and rookie draft as a package to assess how well or how badly we have done - to just look at trades in isolation doesn't really give you a true picture

Final Draft Order

Quote:
Western Bulldogs - round-four selection (received from Carlton via a pick exchange); round-four selection (received from the Sydney Swans as part of Michael Talia trade)

Trade Wrap

Quote:
Trade 5: Picks 20 and 21 along with 2016 fourth-round pick, was traded to the Bulldogs for Pick 11 and their 2016 third-round pick.

For some reason our trade with the Dogs has vanished from the trade tracker.

I use Draft Guru and that 4th rd pick isn't their either. I checked AFL and they have nothing on it.

Weitering always going to be pick 1. Will play straight away, gun...
Harry McKay, pick 10, will take a few years but, hopefully becomes a gun key forward.
Charlie Curnow, pick 12, will become a gun, this kid can seriously play, yes i have seen him, gee whiz.
Dave Cuningham, pick 23, hopefully he turns out to be an elite player, wing/half forward..
SOSS, pick 52, will take time but, with the surname, he's hoping he can play..
Sam Kerridge will be a quality player, mid/half forward.
Matty Wright will be serviceable, I am a fan, will add experience up forward.
Lockie Plowman will be a quality player, will add to our backline.
Daniel Gorringe and Andrew Phillips add depth to our ruck stock.
Not sure about, Liam Sunmer or Jed Lamb??
Rapt with our outcome so far, time will tell if we made the right calls..
Another draft or two and were away!!!!
