We are down to the final two "top trades".....Surely a toss of the coin between "Diesel" and "Juddy"... Who gets top billing...? For me it is "Diesel"...'95 Premiership player and '94 Brownlow ('93 robbed)... What do others think? |

I was about to type Diesel and couldnt. Then I was about to do the same for Juddy and couldnt. 93 Diesel was robbed...dunno why AFL or Fraud squad didnt charge the [REDACTED] umpire ..what's his name?...who threatened the junior ump who was going to give Diesel a vote for his dominant 44 possession game/ Juddy should have won the year Swan did, and so he was ripped off too. Diesudd |

Diesudd Yeah, but Swan should've won 5he year Judd did so it all evens up. |

Hard to split them on output so I considered what it cost us to get them to the club. On that basis Diesel gets my vote. |

Definitely Diesel. Better goal sense than Juddy, but also simply a freak for hitting his man by instinct (dunno how he did it without eyes in the back of his head). Also more natural than Juddy on both sides of feet and hands. |

We also didn't have to sell the farm to get him. The problem with the Judd trade in comparison is that I am not even sure we came out ahead in that trade. Easy to say in hindsight but that script is yet to be written until all of the players involved retire. The fact is that WCE made a GF with two the players in that trade being central figures. We came nowhere close to that. |

We came nowhere close to that. That's an unfair comparison and sort of implies we could have made a GF with Kennedy and pick #4. I agree the Diesel trade was better because of the reasons stated. However, the Judd trade was the right thing for the club to do at the time. The sad reality is Judd was joining a much worse team, and importantly, a much worse club than the environment Diesel found himself in. Imagine Judd in his mid-20s arrivng at Carlton at the same time Diesel did. Oh boy wowee! |

Imagine Judd in his mid-20s arrivng at Carlton at the same time Diesel did. Oh boy wowee! Don't agree with this. By the time Diesel had joined Carlton for the start of the '92 season, we'd just had three of our leanest years in two decades, finishing between 8th and 11th with more losses than wins. We were turning over players in a big way, with '93 being a bit of a surprise year for us (as it was for the bombers) in a competition that had no real dominant team(s). I recall those these vividly as a dark period for Carlton. We weren't as bad during Juddy's arrival as we are today (mid table with some decent prospects on our list, aka end of '91). I'd go so far as to say if the Judd trade was being contemplated right now, he'd have picked Collingwood, maybe Melbourne, but very unlikely Carlton or Essendon*. |

What we gave up for Diesel was a lot less than what we gave up for Judd. And also Diesel > Judd, as much as I love Judd. But Diesel is the best player I have seen play in a Carlton jumper. Also Judd arrived after we had just won 4 games in 2007, that side was worse than our 1991 side (though was still a dark period 89-91). |

How has the Judd trade scored 10% of the vote? Does this mean we actually have fans who are under 30? |

As I recall we traded Ashley Matthews and Peter Sartori to Fitzroy in exchange for Darren Kappler who we then on traded to Sydney. Did we also send up Warren McKenzie up to Sydney as well? There must have been a draft pick or two involved as well. |

* Carlton exchanged Peter Sartori and Ashley Matthews to Fitzroy for Darren Kappler and Fitzroy's 3rd round pick (No. 28 - Carlton picked up Cale O'Keefe) and their 5th Round (54 - used on Leigh Snooks) * Carlton then on-traded Kappler, together with Simon Minton-Connell and draft pick 68 to Sydney in return for Greg Williams and draft choices 78 (Matthew Dickson) and 109, which was not used. |

At the same time, we gave our pick 5 and 31 to Melbourne for Earl Spalding and gave Richard Dennis and a swap of 10th round picks to North Melbourne for Ron De Iulio. |

Whichever way the Williams trade was, it worked out as more players and draft picks out of the club than the Judd Trade. |
