The Blues have refused to talk about Bolton’s contract or employment situation but it is understood the changes at the start of the year provided greater security for the coach and the club.

Media speculation as I thought

I bet everyone on TC, including those brave and noble non-trolls, have just breathed a MASSIVE sigh of relief

There was talk pre-season that Bolton wanted a degree of assurance that if we traded Gibbs it wouldn't cost him his job. I heard he preferred to keep Gibbs, hense the contract guarantee. The club knows what's it doing, right? Another 2 or 3 years at the bottom end and we'll be fine!!

Fair enough IMO.

exactly - why would you trade out for the club's the long term good when the short term consequences could cost you your job.

i keep hearing about all this, young team, wait until we have the cattle etc etc.

i understand it to compete for finals, it's a given. but what about right now. what performance indicators should he be meeting as a minimum?

a team which runs and tackles hard and is always in the contest, like last season? or the slop being served up this season? because the two are worlds apart, and imo one is a passable way to lose, the other; not quite.

I have met a few of the big nobs at Board level and heard their opinions of Bolton.
All good. Confident with the journey and the short term pain.

But the biggest compliment he has received imo is that from Neil Craig.
Craig's a professional who doesn't suffer fools.
He said that Bolton was and is the most equipped/ coach he has ever met.
Says he isn't all smiles as perceived. He is serious about his craft and his charter: moreso than anyone he's met before.

Everything Bolton does is planned, and no surprises. Hence the confidence in Bolts
The one thing he can't control is injury.
He will use the NB where needed, but is clear our plethora of kids need games to gain experience and fast track their development.

He's 2 1/2 years into a rebuild. Total clean out.

OShea, Mullett Silvagni were recruited to add some strength and experience in the NB's.
Richt now, they are filling spots to cover for injury.
Simple as that.

Be patient.
There's a few more surprises coming our way for the better and we should be well and truly challenging by 2020.

It feels like we've only just sacked Wayne Brittain yesterday ....
and now we're stuck in a groundhog day nightmare loop
with articles in the newspaper talking about how harshly we've been punished
and how the AFL needs to give us a hand ...

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

How can I wake up ?

Well said. Reports from football people in the AFL system I know well and respect (one is the Brisbane coach), speak extremely highly of Bolton. That is all the reassurance I need.

Who hasn't played AFL footy? Neil Craig or the Brisbane coach?

Bit of a left field one here. Anything to take the mind off the footy tonight!

Anyway, with Craig Bellamy likely to be leaving Storm at the end of the year and not joining Brisbane till 2020 there is a 12 month gap where one of the best coaches of the modern era is going to be at a loose end. I wonder if there is value in us bringing him on staff for 12 months to assist with big c Coaching (so the leader of men stuff rather than gameday tactics). It's got to be worth at least having a coffee with him to float the idea right?

The all-out defensive tactics being applied now are terrible to watch but are understandable given the nature of our team at the moment.
