Interesting story from David Parkin on Matthew Hogg. He obviously has a soft spot for him.

Maybe not a fashionable selection, but one of my favourite players for the way he played the game.

He mentioned there were 22 players in line for selection for the 1995 Grand Final. The players picked the team and Hogg was a unanimous selection. Troy Bond was the unlucky one who missed out and he subsequently had a sook and was traded to Adelaide. We received Adrian Hickmott in return (overlooked as a trade we won....and won by a long way).

If we could return to the days where we managed to recruit players with his attitude then we could turn this all around very quickly. The problem is that there are 17 other clubs all using the same blueprint. As parkin says the game is now totally professional , back then , there were many opportunities. Now not so many

Yeah but we had a strong leadership culture then.

Thanks for the video Brad, I enjoyed watching that.

Always like Hoggy as well. He's an honest footballer.

It's always astounded me why clubs don't recruit more short players like Hoggy. Doggies recruited one last draft and what they bring is guaranteed 3 head high free kicks at least per game and more.
Hoggy was an honest player that gave his all every time he ran out in the Navy Blue.
