Another season wasted and effectively I am watching to see how our kids perform and waiting for the trade and draft periods. A lot will happen at the club over the next couple of months. Hoping Crippa wins rising star Psych. Apart from that I don't think you are far off the money.

Can't disagree with much of that.

Would have a few ahead of Bell, mainly Cripps, Simpson, Docherty, maybe even Curnow and Tuohy, but just depends on the voting system, how well each player is executing the roles they've been asked to do, and who needs to place where for contractual obligations...

I reckon the Rising Star is a bit of a phyrric victory really. Taylor over Bontempelli? Daniel Pearce? Rhys Palmer? Always seems to go to a bloke that has a really good season but is limited in what they are going to produce and their impact on the comp in the long term.

This year could be interesting because Cripps and Hogan have both had pretty good seasons but both look like massive keepers for the long term. Haven't had that in a while

I don't get overly concerned with such awards, All Aus, Brownlow etc. Just more important to have as many young players coming through. The win is a bonus.

Firstly, what is the voting criteria, and how can you judge who has been better out of Cripps and Hogan for example when they are two different types of players? Like comparing McGrath to Ponting.

If the judges were allocating votes on each game throughout the year then fine, but all they are doing is pulling a 5,4,3,2,1 out of their arse at the end.

And finally look at last year's judges:

Gillion Mclachlan, Mark Evans, Warren Tredrea, Glen Jakovich, Danny Frawley, Luke Darcy, Matthew Richardson, Kevin Bartlett, Cameron Ling and Kevin Sheehan.

I wouldn't over analyse the voting, as over half these guys give the impression that they only watch the games they were allocated to work on as media duties each weekend, rather than keeping an eye on the young, lesser known talent running around in 9 games every weekend.

Does this mean you are assuming we will get first rounders in exchange for both Henderson and Yarran ?

I would add Jamison to that list, and Giles de-listed then rookied (assuming he doesn't play in the 1's this year).

Sounds silly but I reckon that Warnock might net us some sort of pick. At his best he is a serviceable tap ruckman, not much chop around the ground but clubs are always on the look out for rucks. If Jones is worth #40, surely an effective tap ruckman might net about that. When fit and #1 ruckman Warnock was okay except he didn't do a lot around the ground, but there are a few rucks like that. At Carlton he was the wrong fit because we ended up with four similar rucks, but for a club with no rucks like Essendon* he might be useful.

B & F top three Murph, Docherty and Tuohy. Tom Bell has been promising but never looks for anyone when he gets the ball, he either blazes at goal or blazes as far as he can to no-one in particular

Hard to see the Hawks getting done, but wouldn't it be wonderful. I'll tip Freeo 8.1 to 2.30, Hawks are due for some bad luck. Gibbo bravely punches Caleb Daniel in the guts in prelim and finally gets a week. Hodgey gets food poisoning from a dodgy Lite n Easy meal. Cyril has a sore hammy, Mitchell finally gets a week for kneeing someone. Ross Lyon turns it into the ugliest rugby game ever seen.

If Bell had a forwardline to kick to he'd be a hero. Instead he gets the hard ball, turns around and accelerates committed to driving us forward and the team structure forward is zilch. Now there's not too much you can do with someone on your tail than go forward.

Simmo Tuohy and Docherty have all had a relatively good year. Docherty is the one Ive been most surprised with this year.

New coach may want to keep Hendo and Yarran....but then again the new coach may be forced into trading for picks as their charter is to "lead and develop" and not necessarily wins.

Kreuzer FA....if we are going to be brutal with our rebuild then Kreuzer may be allowed to go, but what if he doesn't want to? Then he stays.

Simpson and Walker veterans....depending on how bad Walkers knee is.

Our forward-line structure might be severely lacking, but you still can't simply blaze away; you need to be able to have the vision to be able to assess the options around you, even if that means going sideways or backwards.

He did this in previous seasons as well when at times we had something resembling a forward-line. He has many admirable qualities, but he is way too "get ball, kick ball". While the structure forward of the play needs improvement, possession is too hard to win to just bomb it long blindly.

Or perhaps he could give it off to the first option instead of trying to run around 3 opposition players. Numerous times I've seen Tom Bell receive the ball and retain possession when there was a running, clear option to handball to.
He is improving at a great rate but these deficiencies need to be ironed out by the coaching staff ASAP as the ball is too hard to win without giving it back through basic poor decision making.
