I loved the win last week but am concerned that we are going to compromise our position in the draft by winning another 4-5 games which will result in us overtaking the likes of St Kilda, Melbourne and Essendon*.

Gaining pick 6/7 instead of pick 2/3 is not a desired outcome. At the same time, i don't want this list to be moulded with a 'loser' mentality.

What would you rather, a coach the team wants to play for, or draft picks? Because if the team loses from here on in, Barker is gone for sure. If we keep winning and improving, we will miss draft picks, but its shows Barker could be the man for the job. Its complex.

Hence the reason for this poll.

Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

I hate that winning games could 'penalise' us in the long run.

Mixed feelings about this, but we should play for the future.

Our interim coach wont want to lose, and fair enough too.

We play to win.....if we snag 4 - 5 victories so be it and if one of those is against the Hawks, the confidence in the group will be huge and that goes well for their future.

Winning may also sway Hendo into staying

I think Barker will gives all the kids a go, not at the same time, but spread out over the remaining games.

Walker out and Holman in is a good example.

I think what we are doing at the moment is right. We will always play to win but with an eye on the future. Whether we get pick 2, 3 or 4 isn't a big issue for me.

The goal should be to play guys that are ready like Buckley, Graham, Cripps, Whiley, Holman, Byrne in as many games as possible.

Players such as BB, DVR, Smith, Jaksch etc who need some time and aren't physically ready for AFL can be given a taste via 3-4 games during remainder of the season. Just not all at once.

Other development can be found in trying things and Kruezer getting game time in the ruck, Everitt getting used to a new full time role, Casboult playing forward full time, a settled defence etc. Injuries like those of Walker, Thomas, Giles, Menzel, Sheehan should be getting healthy and ready for the pre season.

There is a lot that can be achieved in the second half of this year if we are smart.

For me, it's about one thing. Play every kid on the list and give them enough game time to see where they are at. If we are good enough for the win, then so be it. The likelihood of us winning with kids is greatly diminished, but they will jag a couple of wins. We will be bottom four.

We don't have an easy draw from here on. Could easily lose five straight.

Agree with this. I'd feel differently if there was actually an additional top pick on the line, like in 05. But if it's just a question of where we sit in the first bunch of picks, I'd prefer to see this squad learn the culture/feeling of winning.

Pick 2-3 or pick 6-7, reality is you still have to pick the right player. Get it right and you will have a 200+ game player with either pick. So win games, draft well. Does it have to any more complicated than that?

We prefer it when it is.

It gives us something to talk about.

Because playing for a lower draft pick and in turn developing a losing culture worked a treat before?

I believe we're still paying for that mindset today... flaky, mentally weak players that seemingly have the ability to 'flick a switch' and choose when to give a shit.

...lets try winning this time.

We finished off last year reasonably well and what did that do for us?
Ditto 2004.

I want Schache or Weiterman.

Just saw on On The Couch we have the hardest draw of all clubs from here to the end of the season.
