Needs its own thread.

Generally I'm against going for an established coach & would be happy for us to search & interview, & choose a new guy who'd done a proper apprenticeship.

But the one exception I'd make is for this bloke. The Hawks were terrible when he took over...did a clean out, had a few misses in the draft but still built a super team.

Interested to hear from the haters - would you be able to just let it go?

Great coach.

Clarko is a top coach but how would he go at our club. We are a mess.

If a coach like Clarko came in he would want to run and revamp the whole football department. The board's ego won't allow that. That's one problem MM has. How could we afford him anyway?

Personally I think we need a clean out and a proper process to recruit the best coach. No messiahs!

I honestly think he wouldn't have the energy or the patience at this point to come in and start from square one.

Good on him for what he did with Hawthorn, thug mentality aside, but the game is about to move on from him and we'd be wise to look at finding our own Clarkson.

Our issue doesn't start and stop with the coach.

Clarke benefited from a rock solid, inventive organisation.

Simply just getting rid of MM will not solve our challenges.

Q. What makes him a good coach
A. Good players.

If he could get Dangerfield and Dixon over the line I might re-consider.

We've killed premiership coaches before we can kill them again.

well said LB.

But...we have a list of 44 like everyone else, and amongst them we have at least a great dirty dozen.
Above that we have another 6-7 good players. I'm thinking a coach should be able to shape a better team and game plan than our current offer to our fans.

FFS I'm thinking that Brittain ( who I respect very much) developed a plan to compete with a list of players missing 19 of their top 22 to injury, plus aging. Sure it was over possession but it brought players into the game, took away possession from the opposition and we knew more about our players than we do now. Coach can do something to make things better.

Unleash them!

I'm talking to you Coach
Get my drift LB? MM has a huge responsibility in his hands, to the players let alone to the club. He can influence the most important area for us, the fans, than can the off field leaders.

The Board aren't going to pick the team, strategise and build a plan.
That responsibility lies with the coach and their committee of decision makers.
Coach has lost the players, lost the plot Imo.

It's not rebuild.
It's add value on all levels on and off field.

We have some very good players we can build on, not release.
Let's create a reason for players to want to come to Carlton.

Surely it would take big dollars to lure Clarkson across. What impact would this have when it comes to spending on assistant coaches given the football department spending cap?

 Wasn't a good list when he started.

3 time Premiership coach in 10 years. I call that impressive.

We got Pagan a wooden spoon within 6 years of him winning a premiership and we're going to get Malthouse one within 5 years of him winning a premiership.

If we get Clarkson we'll get him one even quicker.
