Having sat through 8 quarters of footy at the Depression Dome today, Graham is the only player in the VFL I think is ready to come in next week.

In: Cripps, Graham, Hendo, Jamo, Simmo
Out: Carrots, Ellard, Jaksch, Watson, White

I reckon Kreuzer might need another week.

Joel is in his 2nd year with Northern, so I've seen quite a lot of him. I think VFL is probably his level. I don't think Carlton needs another medium sized mature aged player with average skills. Having said that, I take the point that he is probably no worse than about a dozen players on our list.....

Given Sheehan is all but on the LTI list after going under the knife during the week, who looks the good out of the remaining rookies? Would Walsh or Fields be worthy of a game? If we drop Jaksch and White, we need to be turning to Everitt to make that third tall position his own in defence and help provide run and link up play. He can't be a floating tall while we lack run through the middle.

Watson really did get a lot of shit service today, but probably paid too much to attention to his opponent once the ball was in the air. We're reactive at every position, and that's really sad to see. I think he'd be better if he felt he had the freedom to dictate a few leads to the ball carrier, but we don't seem to be teaching our forwards how to cut a seam through the zone (yes I'm using an NFL term).

At the moment we seem to try and do this by standing static, then hoping the guy in possession and the guy receiving have the same read about where to send the ball: we stick to a zone defender and then peel at the last moment to receive or palm the ball off to a runner.

It's pretty dumb and disrespectful to the rest of the league IMO, and should be a simple tactic within a larger game plan that tries to force the opposition to run around to defend and pressure while we have the football, while we provide outlets to team mates to maintain possession and outpace the oppositions capacity to defend ahead of the ball.

Anyway, I'd like to see:

Out: Jaksch, Watson, Wood, Carrazzo, Ellard, White
In: Jamison, Henderson, Kreuzer, Simpson, Graham, Cripps

FB: Dick Jamison Everitt
HB: Tuohy Rowe Docherty
CC: Gibbs Murphy Simpson
HF: Bell Henderson Yarran
FF: Menzel Casboult Armfield

RR: Kreuzer Cripps Judd

Int: Curnow Graham Tutt

Sub: Thomas

This is nothing more than theatre. There are heroes and villains. We're currently the jokers on stage. If you get all fired up, well that's exactly what the producers have been hoping.

that'll be best case scenario.

realistically it'll be a 110 point bloodbath if we cough up another 78 inside 50s and lay on 38 tackles.

Jimmae, I don't think you can promote a rookie when a rookie (Sheehan) is LTI. If that's what you meant?

Good point!

I'm guessing Byrne will have the mid-season rookie spot held for him then, assuming Giles is still on track to return to full training in 2 months?
