as per trigg's email to member this afternoon which he stated we are undergoing a major rebuild:

apparently it will follow the stk model of selling players for picks ala goddard, dal santo & mcevoy.

..three year rebuild.. ..sound about right, wxcept the few really putting in have limited seasons left, I reckon it could easily be four or five years..

I'd like to know if this is a new rebuild strategy or simply the next phase of what we started 2 years ago?

2 years ago we stated we lacked players in the 21-24 age group and have made attempts to bring in players of this age group with smart trading, ie Docherty, Everitt, Jones, Jaksch, Whiley. Having more depth in this group are we now moving to phase 2: young draftees, or is the club saying that strategy isn't working and are now abandoning it in favour of drafting players?

they will shift like the sands of the sahara over the next 3 years... watch ...

why wouldnt they say this at the end of last year???

reason is ... they didnt think we needed a total rebuild...

but why didnt they think we needed a total rebuild???

they were still interested in players from other clubs...

those players have been snubbing us..... so thata the signal for the rebuild...

Fun stuff. Be good if we can identify talent in the first place. So are we keeping all the fantastic scouts we have had over the years as well? Yeh so we are giving them more responsibility as SOS is going to be list manager and delegates the scouting to our fantastic scouts, especially the ones from WA.

This was always going to be the case given we don't have the flexibility we've had in the previous two seasons. There will be a bit of a rookie list clean out, but the main list already has at least two F/S selections incoming so we can't really go around plucking more than one or two from trade and free agency.

Would want an emphasis on talent on-going; most of this is just stating the obvious.

We shouldn't be trading in any players and chasing free agents until we have the talent to challenge. That's not rebuilding, it's simply doing the same as we have been the past few years. :?

Too much of a broad statement for my liking psych. What if a Docherty type trade presents itself?

True, I would be very happy with that, right age. Was it about pick 33 for a pick 12? Everitt for a similar pick was okay.

For me its about getting as many picks inside top 30 as possible,

The messages coming out of this club are so mixed it may as well be encrypted!

In no particular order
Mick says he can't see where we will lose a game
We go after all sorts of top up players like we are the poor cousins of Hawthorn
Judd goes around for an extra year after retiring as he sees something special building
2 games into the season we announce a rebuild
Mick announces we lack talent
We let talent like Jacobs, Betts, Garlett, Waite move on like being able to kick a goal is a trait we no longer desire.

then this week
Mick publicly states he's not playing youth just for the sake of it, he's still about winning games.
HS writes an article about Mick not playing kids.
Nek minnit we are announcing a rebuild.

FFS pick a direction and follow it you muppets!!!!

I'm sure you can add a heap more.

I'd be happy to trade our first & second round draft picks for Jacksh and docherty type trades.

Because we've been clearly clueless at over the past 10 years.

If a player meets a reasonable age profile, wage level and accepts the clubs terms... why shouldn't we target talented types?

I doubt we'll lure Dangerfield, but we shouldn't exclude him... we simply shouldn't bend to his requirements over our own.

You also don't know what we'll be doing re: F/S selections, especially with a change in the system about to come through.

What if we set ourselves up such that we only keep top 30 picks and have 3 F/S coming onto the senior list... do we not bring in a free agent if we're still brushing out dead wood?
