Cripps, Judd, Murphy, Bell, Jones, Watson, Everitt, Smith all looking promising. Jaksch, Boekhorst and Rowe didn't have the best of days but it was definitely a tough defensive match up, especially after Jamison went off. |

I had Jones better until Watto really picked up the last qtr and a half. Generally Geelong were more switched on the whole game, we were when we felt like it, usually when we were 5+ goals down. Plus the 50/50 type goals went through for Geelong whereas they missed for us. Still, we're developing the makings of a decent side. Think we'll get in to the bottom end of the 8, but that'll be it. Might win a final depending who we played. |

..I think the difference between Jones and watto is Jones is more a hit up leading target, watto is much more a roaming doubling back target.. |

Commentators got it right today re Jones - should focus on leading up and jumping at the ball. Forget about man on man wrestling and he could be a real player |

There's actually a genuine argument to be made for playing both ahead of Casboult. Tactically they would work well together as well, because if Watson is getting rag dolled out of it then you'll know there's a good chance Jones will be able to stretch their defence with his speed, and vice versa when the opposition can cut-off Jones' leading. In form Casboult does a job, but he just sprays so many kicks. Had two bags of 4 last year and 15 goals in 19 games. We need smarter and more effective forwards, unless people are happy with games where Casboult and Henderson manage 1 goal between them. |

Said it last year in the cripps thread in talking players. Cripps will be our best recruit of the last 20 years. ... and to add to that he will be a TOC player as long as those scumbags at the end of the 22nd century value early players like they should. I'm looking at you Yes Man Jr Jr Jr. Kid is an absolute gun. Nothing will stop him, not shit coaches nor shit team-mates. |

..you cannot become subpar in the ruck though.. ..so if bolt doesn't play, Rowe becomes second ruck.. ..or you go a ruck combo of knockers and wood.. ..watto and Jones as a season long second ruck option will see us bleed goals when the genuine ruck is resting.. |

Watto had 75% game time, so worked into the contest nicely. By comparison Jones had 80%, Everitt & Hendo had about 90% a piece. Here's some other notable percentages: Jamison 41% Judd 57% Murphy 63% Carrazzo 72% Thomas 72% Menzel 79% Tuohy 77% AFL average is about 82% for midfielders and 92% for running forwards & defenders. I should note that those are rough estimates and based on regular AFL matches. The quarters are shorter in the NAB cup as time-on doesn't kick in until the final 5 minutes of the quarter save for goals and blood rule incidents (had to find that out via TV coverage). |

What I can't figure is why Casboult is so bad? He'd have the best in the business coaching him, not to mention its his full time job for pete's sake. How hard can it be? I guess the question that lingers most in my mind is, is it in Casboults head or is there an actual physical reason why he can't get a proper action when kicking at goal? |

Best game I've seen from Cripps. Very impressive. Jones showed a bit against a good opponent. Smith showed some nice flashes. Byrne was promising. Disappointing not seeing more from Boekhorst. |

Thats that I mean, its just so sub par for an AFL player, I'm at a loss to find a valid reason why? Added to that, what kills me is if he didn't have probably the best hands in the business, he'd be gone by now surely? Its completely frustrating because the guys hands are like glue, he'd be a dead set monster for us if he could slot them. ARGHH!!!!!! |
