Is this a new thread? Or just a clean up of that one that was here on the weekend. Or did I imagine the whole thing in a drunken haze? Was the lady in red at princes park part of that same haze? |

Not even the mods deleting the thread can stop the run away truth train that is keogh. |

That's a better version than the original. This point is well discussed in many previous threads. Here are the facts: - We got decent value out of the Warnock trade; Freo didn't want to let go of him - We made a good return on Jacobs time at the club, given he was leaving as (in many ways understandably) the 4th choice ruckman - Jacobs got a lot fitter, but is still is a burden to Adelaide due to his running capacity (or lack thereof) - Hampson is value for Richmond and OK value for us given we had let him go incredibly stale in the reserves in Ratten's by-then deluded view of Warnock's taps to advantage - Hampson is yet to show his best football at Richmond (please don't include leaping all over now-veteran Will Minson in a practice match as a sign of good form) - We turned the pick we got for Hampson into Sam Docherty. We didn't screw up with Jacobs, we did well considering he didn't bother taking his game to another level with us, and he has clearly hit his ceiling at Adelaide. We did screw up a little bit with developing Hampson, but we were blessed with the form of Kreuzer, and at some points Warnock, at the time. With Wood on the list, we need to shuffle Robbie on this upcoming off-season and draft a new ruck, likely someone in the 21-23 bracket. I'm not sure what more needs to be said. You've highlighted a swing, and you've highlighted a roundabout. Them's the breaks. |

..jimmae, the knockers trade has been a flat out bust.. ..not sure you, or anyone, can say it has been a decent trade.. ..4 yrs @ 400k pa, multiple picks, for an unproven ruck just after two years of using top twenty picks on ruckmen.. |

BKB it was a value trade at the time. Warnock was considered hot property and one of the best second ruckman in the league. Frankly, he still has the talent to be an excellent ruckman (as does Wood) but it just hasn't happened yet. Hampson is another who has enormous potential. keogh wrote: jimmae wrote: That's a better version than the original. This point is well discussed in many previous threads. We DID turn the pick for Hampson into Docherty. |

This was the end of 2008, where Lade, Seaby, Warnock, Jamar, Ryder and Goldstein were the names you thought of when you looked for undervalued 2nd ruckman. Lade was too old; Seaby was average; Jamar was 50/50, and Ryder and Goldstein were never going to be on the market. Warnock was the guy. I wanted less for him at the time, and I wanted him out of here years ago, but it was reasonable value. Freo were pretty cheesed at the time, but they'll probably be laughing about it nowadays. His problem is between the ears, despite being a well-spoken and intelligent man. The 'no ticker' aspect is along my lines of thinking. |

..but why did we chase him..?.. ..he wasn't any more seasoned than the rucks we already had.. ....he wasn't ready to carry the ruckload.. ..it made no real sense to chase him as hard as did, having to go to arbitration to get the deal done, giving him a long cashed up contract.. ..it definitely contributed to Jacobs leaving.. ..I agree that Jacobs didn't show much until the end of 2010, but Hampson at pick 17 and krooz at pick 1,, ought to have been enough of an investment.. ..knockers on top of that was big spending on rucks for three straight years, and not a single one of them was ready to be a main ruck week in week out.. ..except krooz, who we pushed too hard too soon.. ....and we have no young ruck coming through.. ..we will do it again.. ..its our list management, it's knee jerk reactions for over a decade.. |

He had 3 or 4 years on the existing ruck group IIRC. Jacobs & Hampson were in year 2, Kreuzer was year 1, Setanta and Cam Cloke were on our books and we'd just ditched Ackland and Aisake. |

..2 years in the system more than krooz, for less senior games.. ..at the time we traded him in, and still to this day, even with all of krooz's injuries.. ..1 year in the system longer than hampson.. ..he had about half a season of afl footy when we drafted him in.. ..and a totally stuffed ankle and foot.. |

Fair enough, I'm out by a year. Highly rated as a pure ruckman by all and sundry and we had plans on how we wished to develop Kreuzer and Hampson to make use of their athleticism. I get the thinking, and but you'll note I was very much for the retention of Hampson over Warnock two years ago. |

..more stupidity, invest pick 1 on a player type, and then think to change that player type.. ....yep, you and me both.. .?but we can't give him away.. ..apparently, we've tried to too.. ..no takers.. ..so we're stuck hoping at 28 he will improve.. ..even though a ruck with stuffed shoulders isn't that hopeful.. |
