The whole week had been terrible after he'd missed the sitter to win the Essendon* game...& the end of the Hawthorn match just took the weight off Carlton's shoulders.

My fave memories was sitting in the Heatley stand in the late 70's and early 80's and watching the Blues invent the premiership quarter - blitzing the opposition with a 3rd quarter rampage (too many games like this to nominate the one)

12.5 in the first quarter against the Swans at PP in the early 80s.

Most dominant quarter of footy I can remember from the best team I ever saw.

That day at Princes park in 1985 or 1986 I think, when we broke the Losing streak against the bombers.

I remember seeing Harmes in full flight playing all over the forward line, kicking 65m low torpedo goals. Kicked 4 or 5 goals and could have kicked a lot more. Remember Rhys gettjng reported very early on for hitting an Essendon* clown so things started off perfectly. We had big lead at half time and 3/4 time, and yet I was still nervous against those Sheedy freaks. @#$%&! I hated the bombers then.

Harmes was a special player. A one off. One of my all time favorites.



I also recall in the press Sheedy openly wanting to poach Harmes....not sure if it was after this game or earlier in the season.

Been to all 8 premierships from 1968 on.

Behind the goals at MCG Punt Rd end for 1970 third quarter revival.

In the Gardiner stand PP when Muir decked Woof Pervic and almost decked the umpy after throwing out his mouth guard.

In the Hawthorn stand PP when Magro jumped into Jezza's back/head and knocked him out.

In the Elliot stand PP where the interchange were when the idiots tried to jump the fence and tangle with Milburn after he had flattened SOS.

There when the concession stand Lygon St PP end caught fire and fans poured on to the ground.

There when Bosustow took mark and kicked goal of the year.

In the Social club stand when a ramp was built for Bob Menzies and his Rolls Royce.

And better than the 8 premierships, I was there for the '99 preliminary final.


And yes I continued to pay for my memberships during the early years of this century when all I could do was laugh at the ineptitude of the team.

Dont think I ever experienced a more vocal and intense atmosphere at a ground until Super Saturday at 2000 Olympics.
I think these round was the beginning of Carltons best era of football .

remember reading Fitzpatrick's diary in 82 (I think).
I was on the train heading into MCG in 99 prelim. The station announcer announced that we were at the MCG and that football fans were to disembark. He added: "and for those Carlton supporters we will see you back here at quarter time" (hahahaha)
Remember watching Harry Madden's running bounce down the middle and goal at Waverly. Can't remember laughing so hard...

I remember that game as a young l'd I used to play footy in the morning and for whatever reason I thought the game was at the Lakeside oval so I got to Flinders ST and took the train out to the lakeside and got off and started walking to the ground and then it hit me I had buggered up. Rushed back to Flinders ST and made it to PP for the first bounce as I had a reserved seat in the Heatley - thk goodness it wasn't VFL park!!

Harmes was one of the best player I have ever seen. He could do it all. Sure he didn't produce it as regularly as other champions, but when he produced he was unbeatable.

Someone else mentioned a match from 1979. It is a shame there is no complete match day footage of this match. Most footage from this period has been deleted.

The most bizarre game by a long way was the infamous fog game against Fitzroy at the Lakeside oval in 1971. Couldn't see 20 metres in front of you. Ridiculous should have been called off.

...fog would have been the only chance a forward had against Southby at that time.

I remember watching intra-club matches at the Princes Park outside oval near the Tennis courts, and spending an afternoon chasing the footballs behind the goals and handballing them back to Southby and Austin etc. Southby's kicking was just magical. Effortless 60m drop punts with the occasional torp.

1992 versus St Kilda at Princes Park

- Plugger killed an inexperienced Sexton in the first half, Saints up by 4-5 goals at halftime
- Dorotich moved on to Plugger in the second half and kept him quiet for the rest of the game
- 3rd quarter at the Heatley end, Rhino goes nuts and even Ian Aitken joins the fun with 2 goals
- Epic final quarter with lead changing hands multiple times, De Iulio kicking goals and Sticks handballing to himself and then kicking a banana from the forward pocket
- Game ends with Plugger knocking out Matty Hogg, cue sustained abuse of Saints fans as they trudge out of the ground

In WADA we trust

Standing behind the goals at Haeatly Stand end in the mid 90s with all the other Wogs (Multiculturalism at its best) and watching Kouta, SOS, the Cranium, Sticks, Deisel etc smash side after side (we won over 20 games in a row at Princes Park during that period).

Three particular games from 94/95 spring to mind:

Last round of 1994 vs the Tigers. This was Match of the Day stuff, as we were near on Flag favourites at the time, and the Tiges need to win to make the finals for the first time since 1982. The place was jam packed with the gates having been closed at 1pm. We floored the Tiges from the beginning and ended up smashing them by over 100 points.

Mid 1995 vs the Hawks - We d just come off two beltings in a row at the hands of the Swans and Saints, and people were wondering whether the wheels were going to fall off our season. We hit the Hawks with a 9 goal first quarter, almost as if we were shaking off the shackles of the previuous two weeks, and ran riot for the rest of the game, thumping them by 100+ points

Mid 1995 vs Geelong - Top of the Table clash. Ablett at the peak of his powers. The place was packed again and an lock out. It was a torrid struggle all day, SOS did a top job on Gazza, and we got home by 3 points.

The centenary match and win at the G against the hated Pies

I echo the many comments about the Heatly Stand. Loved it rocking and rolling as we smashed yet another team. And the party would continue well after the siren.

Standing in the outer at Princes Park on the city side and watching the rivers of piss running down the hill after half time.
