Gun sides have Gun players that can change the course of games / win games when they are there to be won

Great to have team 1st mantra, but at the end of the day in big games and close games the GUNS step up

Hawthorn
Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Gunston, Roughead can make the clutch plays and kick goals when needed

Sydney
Without O'Keefe not so many, obviously Buddy, maybe Tippet - but a super supporting cast

Port Adelaide
Boak, Wines and Wingard

Geelong
Selwood, Bartel, Hawkins and maybe Johnson

So what about the Blues :?: :?: :!: :!:
Judd still can, but less often
Gibbs stepped up last year and tried to drag us across the line in a few games :gift:

And then I think daylight - Murphy while consistent aint a game breaker / changer for mine :fight: I can remember about 2 games where he has done this

This year I think there will be many close games, so who can step up to get us over the line :?:
For the Blues to make the 8 someone has to be able to drag us over the line in maybe 3 or 4 games

I'd like to say Yarran, but don't think so

SUGGESTIONS :?:

..harsh on Murphy, both considering how buggered he has been these last few years, and his outstanding work in games, plenty more than a few..

....with a fit list you can add to your list, DT, Hendo, Krooz, Yaz, Everitt.. ....menz, bucks, crisps out of the new crew..

Wow you are putting all those players into such a rarified atmosphere.?

Menz is the obvious one for mine - he wants to take the shot and make the play, but not sure this year he is up to it
Daisy has the want and looks likely to have the fitness this year - let's hope so
Too early for Cripps but can see the intent

All the rest...... MEH

Yarran best line breaker in the league. Must give him the room and he does the rest.

Game changers aren't always the best or most consistent players - hard to be a game changer from the back pocket.

I go for

Gibbs
Yazz
Menzal
with Casbolt being the great white hope. I don't think he will be the best player but if things click for him I think he will be very hard to stop. I reckon contested marking in the forward line is one of the most difficult skills as you will have 2-3 players whose primary job is to stop you. Casbolt has shown he can take the grabs against good opposition. Just got to learn everything else....

We dont have the star power. I think our list is even but bereft of star power. Discount judd. Gibbs borderline for 1 season and menzel looks like potential. The reason I would have picked le verde is because he shows signs of a potential a grader. A few more drafts, trAdes yet. At least any potential star will be surrounded by a core of competent players and coaches.

Hit the nail on the head with that last sentence.
The opening post mentions the game changers from four of the top sides in the comp. The supporting cast is strong in their case.
Once ours is the same we may see a few game changers emerge. Up until now, they have been the work horses trying to carry the rest of the side across the line.

Indeed. Not a backman's bottom but moves like a forward and is a great long kick

Its all a bit easy for MegaHead - take front position, lead at ball, block defenders view of the rest of the field with massive scone, take mark.

Dont think AFL is about match winners any more its more about making the most of the momentum when you have it.
Not many games are played where a side dominates from start to finish.
Its about making the most of your chances when you have the flow of the game.
We have several momentum killers the guys that miss the easy set shot then the other team goes coast to coast and scores.
Its moral sapping.
Murphy does it a lot .so did Lucas.
But our biggest killer is Casboult.
The number of times he missed easy goals or gave away stupid rucking free kicks right in front of the opposition goal last year was ridiculous.
And for a bloke who is touted as the best grab in the league he drops some sitters.
There was one game there last year where in the space of 5 minutes he conceded a free costing a goal. Then missed a set shot from 40 .
Then spilt a sitter on the flank which turned over for a goal.
We need to eliminate the momentum killing moments.
Hopefully this bloke can get this out of his game and our captain can kick goals he should be swallowing.
Need to sieze the moment when its there

Mitch Robinson's turnovers, Jarrad Waite's attitude, and Jeffy Garlett's laziness, all massive momentum killers. and all gone!!
Potential matchwinners, Judd, Gibbs and Yarran the obvious ones

Bartel hasn't been a match winner for 3 years.
Judd is a far superior player, even at this stage of their careers.

Q. Who are our "potential" Game Changers/Winners ?

Do the umpires count, they have a habit of screwing us up in game.

When I think of game changers the one's that come to mind are Judd and Fevola types... players you look to when things ain't going so well.

Judd is aging and the rest of our list are cameo at best... I got nothing tbh

Yes need to sieze the moment that is in essence the argument - who can do it and wants to do it, but also need to stop momentum when it is against you
Selwood probably had his worst game of the year against us, but when the moment came he kicked the match winner
Cats won 8 games by less than 13 points, Carlton lost 7 games by less than 13 points last year

Yarran has the class and the want, don't think he has the tank for 'time on' impact - hope to be proved wrong
Would be great to see someone emerge
