Brought a tear to my eye Mosche.

Just beautifully written.

Been there a few times over the decades...mainly during the day for a "Carlton" drink.
Haven't been for a while.

May have to get the cousin, nephews and a few of my Carlton brethren to do the same.
Most of my Melbourne mates don't barrack for Carlton, so its a special place for the special few.

Thanks (again) for a great read.

Reminds me, I miss DB's pieces...the ghostly read.

Great read Moshe.

Didn't do much dining at Percy's but it made for quite a wild nightclub venue some years back.
Have some stories that may not make print though.

Great read!

For anyone who grew up in the 'good old days' of Princes Park and enjoyed our glory years, a visit to Percy's is a must. Actually, it's a must for any good Carlton person: as a reminder of the spirit of the club and what it can still represent to us in an age where sport has been almost completely commercialised, franchised and corporatised.

The food's pretty good too.

Beautifully captured Moshe.

For many years a group from my work at my coercion visited Percy's every Friday night for drinks. Just a beer or two, sometimes a meal, then home. It retained that old style dishevelled corner pub feel at a time when almost every other establishment had become gentrified with interior design and gourmet food.

The highlight was always Percy along with his trademark hand picked short skirted tight topped female bar staff. Along with a very motley crew, some recognisable most not, in the main bar.

We particularly enjoyed taking overseas guests to Percy's both to meet the man and to expose them to the unique culture.

He could be a grumpy bastard sometimes, including the night he kicked us all out because one of the women had brought her toddler and the kid left most of her meal on the carpeted floor.

One of the most loved Carlton players of all time.

The last time I was in Melbourne, I was invited to meet a mate at Percy’s but work commitments prevented it. After reading Moshes account I now very much regret it. I too grew up in Brunswick near the Barclay brickworks quarry and have similar fond memories of early days following Carlton. As kids we used to swim in the fish pond in the top corner of Princes Park where Royal Parade turns in to Sydney Road.
When last in Melbourne I invited two good friends of mine to dinner in the hotel where I was staying. They had both played for Carlton (but about 40 years apart) and they did not know each other. One played in the 1968 premiership side and coached me at two different clubs in the 70’s. He is a regular at Percy’s. The other ex-player was delisted a few years ago and I met him through my niece who is his partner. Even though there was 40 years difference in age between the two explayers, it didn’t matter as they both spoke the same language – Carlton.
We had a great night until we were asked by security to leave the bar at the Grand Hyatt at around 4 in the morning. The 68 premiership player wanted me to meet him at Percy’s the next day but I declined as I had meetings with some senior Victorian Government bureaucrats. I was a bit seedy at the meetings the next day and might have dozed off if my mobile phone didn’t keep ringing. My mate was at Percy’s and thought I was a bit inconsiderate because I didn’t cancel my meetings in order for him to introduce me to Percy.
After reading your blog Moshe, the next time I go to Melbourne (probably for at least one of this years Blues v Pies games) I am going to Percy’s no matter what. And I’ll keep my eye out for you Moshe.

Disappointing Moshe. Not a single mention of Wesley Victor Lofts, thai colonic cleansing or duck risotto.

Very rarely can a 'Carlton Legend' describe a legend of the club and an icon of the suburb. A lovely man who definitely takes in more than most give him credit for - it's an absolute pleasure for one of the youngest blokes at the table (me) to sit close to the two of you listening to your questions and his answers.

We probably need to find an equivalent to Percy's in Sydney for June.

Interesting one there Doc.

Adele who runs the NSW Carlton network usually organises the Royal Hotel in Randwick for the viewing and some Carlton functions. Not a great turnout, but its something I guess.

I know her family own a restaurant. I haven't been to it. I can ask her about it, and experience it and report on it....???

If there's Carltonians coming then we should make it a great Carlton weekend, because we'll beat the Swans as we did against the odds in the driving rain the last time we played in Sydney.

There was a great Spirit of Carlton function which was well attended.

My favourite Carlton function (besides Finals) was the Blues Cruise. What a day and night that was despite the loss. A real Carlton Day.

Sorry to get side tracked...only slightly related to the thread...just.
Food for thought...boom boom.
