What has he done for us?

This is what you get for having a process!

In all seriousness, I am not too happy about this appointment but will wait and see how he goes.

Tippettgate was a club issue. Trigg took the most heat, but there were plenty of others involved. Would be like thinking that JE was the only player in the Carlton salary cap saga.

From an outside perspective it's fact that since CEO the club has gone from a powerhouse club off the field to middle of the road in terms of revenue and membership.

The rise of Port Adelaide off the field in SA has a lot to do with the complacency of those involved in the AFC who acted as if it was their given right to be Number 1 in the state for fans, members, corporate, sponsors etc. Keith Thomas on the other hand has led the way at Port Adelaide in doing the opposite and were the club who clearly led the move to Adelaide Oval.

Listening to him interviewed he is highly sensitive to any criticism from media or members. Like a politician his answers are usually spin, and a whole lot of words with very little substance. Tries to justify their failures with the excuse of "a lot of good people at the club are trying their best" type justification.

Has a reputation for being too meek when it comes to standing up for the club against the AFL with the suspicion being that he wants a position within their ranks one day. The Matt Rendall sacking was seen as Trigg giving the the head on the stick they were looking for to defuse the situation. On the flipside it's sometimes seen as a positive in such examples as the Tippett affair where the it seemed the club got of lightly due this relationship with certain people in AFL house.

He is seen as the man that orchestrated the Taj Mahal facilities that were built at AAMI stadium despite the fact the inevitability of a move to Adelaide Oval. That White Elephant is Adelaide's Legends Stand, due to it's massive cost and now complete lack of use.

In recent years the club has also made some strange contract appointments regarding players and the coach. They've failed to improve in areas such as high performance and missed a chance of securing Darren Burgess. Like Swann, Trigg has been involved in areas such as trade and list management and AFC have - as well as losing players - failed to secure many trade targets including just recently Jarrad Polec however like Tippettgate there are many others who need also take blame.

BTW, a lot of the above is not all my opinion, just some of the general commentary that follows Stephen Trigg. Some is fact, however some is outsiders perception.

As for all appointments I'll continue to take the "those inside know better than me" approach, however expect this one in particular to be closely followed.

More outside perception is that Adelaide is regarded as a boys club. Lack of innovation, tough decisions and acceptance of change.....

.....on the flip side when the club was travelling well the same group was credited with the success as it was seen as professional and the lack of movement within described as "stability".

There is every chance that when he originally joining the club Trigg was a good operator, but stayed at the club to long and hence a sense of staleness or lethargy perhaps set in. Similar has been said about Swann.

The comments of AFC supporters need to be taken in perspective. I'm not dismissing their points, but Trigg is their go to fall guy when discussing the club.
It's similar to blaming the coach for all of your teams problems. You'd much rather believe that its the fault of one person and not the players, recruiters, board, fitness staff, assistants, list managers etc as its much simpler to replace one individual and you can then convince yourself that after making that one change all will be right with the club again.

Ultimately those at the top do have to take responsibility, but there are always many others involved

Appreciate your insights Blueboy74,
Let's cross our fingers.

But I'm not sure about this:

Seriously it wasn't that long ago when people were wondering whether Port Adelaide would need to hand back their license.
Port have done some great things so far in 'the Kochie era', but let's wait and see whether Trigg has a few tricks left in him.

BTW, can we officially call this appointment #OperationPaybackForPayback ?
