Wayne Bennett, one of the best coaches this country has seen will be free at the end of this year. He has yet to sign with any team. He's a quiet, intelligent, thoughtful, successful bloke. I think if any coach could make a successful switch, he'd be at the top of the list. Bring him in as a player manager if not coach. His player management is legendary, and he has always had players putting in their all for him each week. He wouldn't need to have an intimate knowledge of Aussie Rules, as those tactical coaching matters would be dealt with by the senior coach and assistants. Make it happen! |

Too expensive. But a good thought to bring someone in from rugby...might help our tackling. Not as number one coach though |

Quote: A decade ago, Bennett spoke to the Carlton AFL club. Carlton legend Anthony Koutafides recalled recently on Sky’s “Sportsline” program the full roster of players sat in total silence, hanging on every word, to give Bennett a standing ovation when he finished. “He was the best speaker, sporting or otherwise, I’ve ever heard – inspirational”. http://www.theroar.com.au/2011/05/05/wayne-bennett-to-bring-rugby-and-league-closer/ |

My dad's a St George supporter as well as Carlton and we've had a few discussions regarding the parallels between Bennett and MM. Two legendary coaches guiding several teams to premierships only to switch teams on big cash and have the team not deliver. Newcastle have had a myriad of off field issues related to their owner etc, we've got a mess off-field also. Now it looks like Bennett may return to St George on big coin again...I'll be eagerly watching to see what he does next to see if indeed it was a rabble team which hindered him from doing his best work or if he is past it. |

Rick Charlesworth. He described AFL footballers as the most selfish and indulged sportspeople in Australia. Said (in comparison to Olympic athletes) they have everything laid out on a platter for them, can't think for themselves and have no concept of what the real world is like. Said they were all living in a bubble where they expect everyone to pick up after them. Whenever I hear about the Essendon* players, his words ring loudly in my ears. That's the guy we need. |

Would love that. Charlesworth is a legend. |

Oh wait...... |

Darren Lehmann seems to know how to make a team out of a bunch of blokes. Gives them each a role based on their natural instincts and personality. GET LEHMANN !! |

Basically the same bunch of scrubbers that got their pants pulled down in England. Come to the Ozzie summer and, with the addition of the completely shit M Johnson, smashes the Poms and Yarpies into oblivion !!! Now that's a super duper coach! |
