I agree. But I do think that is changing. Now, for a board to trim itself and show a bit of humility. Do the right thing.

I went to the dinner last night.

Nicholls spoke well. He sort of took a swipe at John Elliott without naming him.

Was a very good night. Very well organised.

Would have liked the new president to have addressed the faithful.

I went as well & conquer. I thought Big Nick made it clear that the club had made mistakes & needed to face up to these and correct things.

MM was underwhelming. He looked completely lost walking off stage. It was a little embarrassing.

The only downer was when that [REDACTED] Andy Maher hosted a segment with players on stage. It ruined my night. They used Sandra Sully in another & no disrespect she likes Carlton but is originally from Sydney. I would have though Sam Lane in her stead.

I was there too. Yep without mentioning them by name Big Nick sure pointed the finger at John Elliot and I also thought at George Harris too. When he was talking about carlton needing to shed its arrogant image he actually said he blamed the people that have run the club. Then he said what a great job Sticks had done and also what a great man Ian Collins had been for the club, thus excusing them. It didn't take much to read between the lines that he was talking about Elliot and most likely Harris.

When a Club is winning Premierships arrogance may be tolerated
When a Club is bottom 4-6 and has not won a Premiership for 19 years whilst watching nearly all Clubs go past us, arrogance is just being plain stupid....

I was there, a very well organised on stage event.
I thought the noise came from the corporates tables.

Is this to become the thread for opinion on our top 5 (and 12, as listed in the Hun)?

I was seriously concerned that Sticks was going to get the top gong, but to me, number two is still a product of an incestuous process. Sticks no. 5 tops.

And it's as if we didn't have any champions pre-1950s (as evidenced by a champion of the colony not even making the original 150).

Yes, a flawed process.

Also, I don't know how good Ken Hands was, but if he's worth being no. 11 then he shouldn't have been on the voting panel, and neither should Swan McKay or anyone with potential to rank highly, or Gleeson or anyone else in a current official capacity. It's not as though there aren't heaps of interested and capable parties out there.

I'm not claiming corruption, but the process needs to be and APPEAR to be thorough and untainted, or as untainted as is possible in an emotional football world.

For all its faults (and the Club certainly has them... as do all Clubs) I thought it was a good night, well run. On a night when it could have been all about the Club's best players, I thought they did well to acknowledge the Club as a whole - including its supporters. If this was some sort of Road to Damascus remains to be seen.

Anyway, it was good enough to have me drinking the Kool Aide for the weekend at least -- and I challenge anyone to find a urinal containing more talent than Saturday night's at The Plenary... http://www.footyalmanac.com.au/carltons-150th-celebration-ease-his-pain-ease-his-pain-the-peoples-elbow-on-the-redemptive-power-of-the-blues-field-of-dreams/
