Robbo must be trying to sneak in some Carlton-bashing to ease his pain about the impending doom at the Scum: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/stephen-silvagnis-selection-as-fullback-in-the-afl-team-of-the-century-is-a-little-known-secret/story-fn8wskg9-1226946216665 I actually thought the story had some merit regarding Southby, Dench and Regan not being eligible for selection and then I saw Allen Aylett's comments on who he would have selected: Quote: Aylett’s opinion was that Silvagni would’ve missed out if the rule was not in place. ‘’It wouldn’t have even got to consideration for Stephen. It’s nothing against him, but we couldn’t consider the other two because they weren’t in the Hall of Fame. ‘’It was a loophole but an honest mistake.’’ So, Dench or Southby? ‘’Either of those two, both were great players,’’ Aylett said. ‘'As much as I appreciated Southby as a player, I would’ve gone for Dench because I saw every game he played. He was a brilliant player, a dasher, 20, 25 years ahead of his time. ‘’As for Silvagni, I don’t think he played that many games at full-back then either, because he did start off at centre half-forward. So it's an outrage that the aforementioned players were ineligible for selection, but it's OK to be biased in your decision because you saw Dench play every game? ![]() OK then - seems fair to hand it over to Dench immediately I suppose? ![]() I find it amazing how many oppostion supporters want to talk down how good SOS was throughout his career. Southby may have been a better true Full-Back for sure, but they carry on like SOS was a 90's equivalent to Zac Dawson. I'm sure if Southby had got the gong instead there would have been an equal number of detractors lining up for their turn to discredit him in some way also. |

Best FB I have ever seen. I wasn't old enough to remember Southby and Dench but SOS was in another league of his own. Blue Boots says Silvagni should be full back of the century. |

Agree Synners what a non story Slow news pretty ordinary round of footy so Slobbo tries to be controversial Just because Aylett is jealous of our history Piss off Aylett and Slobbo |

Really, really poor form by Aylett, and the quotes from him re SOS not playing often enough at fb, why the hell was he on the committee if he didn't know much about SOS. I reckon SOS played abt 250 games at fb. The fact that he cd also go fwd wd make him a better not lesser player. And how does robbo hold a job. Least articulate journo in aust, and cheer leader for the bombers. |

Robbo is no longer a journalist. He's a 'blogger' who's work belongs on the likes of 'Big-Footy'. What a piss-poor article. |

As Synners says, non-event but I saw them all play. Best all rounder was SOS. Southby wanted to play CHF at one time and was trialled there for a few games and was decidedly average. Dench was a terrific player. His dash was really something else. But I only saw him a couple of time a year. ![]() Southby was far and away the best pure FB. At least until Balme hit him into the next universe at the end of '73 and then you can have a debate. His balance and poise was Doullesque and kicking the torps from the goal square 60 meters (yards?) every time. Later in his career he had this full game one on one with Blight and beat him pointless at PP. Still remember it. And he was fair. Another one not always mentioned was Kelvin Moore from Hawthorn. Darn good player. Great era for full backs. |

Slobbo has got rid of Nicholls and Silvagni, expect him to go for Doull and Jesaulenko next. |

His biggest hero is the architect of Essendon*'s doping program. Don't know why anyone cares about his opinion. |

Hard to dissagree with SOS being selected. If you go through the AFL all time goal kickers list it is pretty impressive how many of the best forwards to ever play the game he had to contend with....and ontop of that he could kick a goal or 10. Suck a d×ck robbo! |
