He's most likely leading our B&F.

Or second behind Yazz/Murph.

I don't care what we can get for Gibbs. If he accepts a fair price (like has been reported) I want Gibbs to stay.

Find another way to get a good pick. If we go selling our good players for picks, we'll be left with plodders & a few elite kids and look like Melbourne.

Secondly, the author of the article claims to be a draft expert & hence believe his picks will be guaranteed guns. Yet if you read his phantom draft from last year, a lot of his picks didn't get picked up.

it all depends where we finish at the end of season. His article states if we get access to a1 to 6/7 pick.I personally seen to much of bryce that been disappointing.

Couldn't agree more. I like Gibbs as a player but from a pure business sense given where we are letting him go would be a smart decision.

..only if he wanted top dollar otherwise in effect it's a little saved on tpp but not crazy amounts if he signs for 500, and trading Gibbs out for a pick around where?, 8ish..?..

Exactement. Letting him go made business sense when we thought we had to pay Selwood money for him. At Eddie Betts money, he's worth keeping.

I'm not thinking money. I'm thinking another top 10 pick that could be an a grader for the next ten years.

I understand but look at this way. Would you want this Gibbs for 4-5 years when we are struggling or a "new" Gibbs (or hopefully someone even better) that will part of a rebuilding Carlton for the next 10 years?

I am hopeful the new coaching and development along with our recruiting can vastly improve on what has happened in the past.

I think you'll find it's pronounced GIBBS

Quite apart from the fact that Gibbs (despite all the criticism) is in our best 4-5 players and has probably been top 2 this year, you just don't let players walk or cast them aside.

I'm all for the club working out what they will pay and sticking to it but people on here want to kick him out for the next "messiah" draft pick. What message does that send to the players? We want loyalty but are prepared to kick a very good footballer out of the club for the possibility that we might find another one...

Madness.

Co-sign. I was against it at $700k+. If it's in the $500k range, absolutely keep.

Yeah let's get rid of one of our top 5 players for someone likely to be a 10-20 ranked one. If he's only after 500 it's a no brainer

u keep gibbs... why?
because end of year we will be chasing a player from another club.
so u wont get the gibbs pick anyway.....

people forget that.....

thats what this club does

Not a personal crack KK as I know a lot of people think the same way but I don't agree.

All that says is lets keep on the same path and hope things improve. We are crap at the moment. We can't go out and buys players etc.

Unfortunately we need to make hard decisions. Is Gibbs really that good that he will lead us to our next Premiership?

IMO he may well be in our best 4-5 players but that isn't saying a lot. Personally I'd like to keep them all and keep building but the system simply doesn't allow for that.

The really good clubs make the hard decisions to get to or stay at the top. In a perfect world do you think Geelong really want to get rid of Pods or Chapman? No, but to keep near the top teams it had to be done. That's the way the system works and good clubs embrace it not fight it.

Well put.
