Surely it's a matter of when and not if Sayers steps down now?

Really? What for?

Because she needed to find something to stick into the players and found nothing but went with the story.

The story being that Cripps and Doc stayed at a swanky hotel in Paddington while the players slimmed in their own hotels.

C&D were with the players the whole time until the team flew out. They then went to the swanky hotel with their wives who were there and had the weekend off which was pre planned and approved by the club. So she lied and he is calling her out on it.

I thought it was a bit ordinary seeing Cripps coming back a day later.

But I didn't realise they had the weekend off and would have stayed up on their own dime.

This would be a non story if we were doing better this season.
Crazy sh!t....

Journalists should be just that... journalists!

Seems in sport they go more for rumour mongering..
How easy is it to ask Cripps or Doc what was going on?
Caro usually does well researched stories with opportunities for people to make comments, but floating/ spreading rumours as facts only puts you in the dumb rumour monger category.... Like I said, dumb sh!t to do and undermine yourself.

As they say.... ".. Only one goat..."

No doubt face a Senate committee, as should happen...
That will be interesting because there will be low levels of partisanship so PWC will be the target from all sides...

Does it really matter though? You could appoint Leo Sayer instead of Luke Sayers and it really wouldn't matter a great deal. These people aren't owners. They press flesh and speak at luncheons. We've been hoodwinked by the media somewhat in believing an AFL club president is something more than an individual who steers the ship. I'm not even fussed if the President is a Carlton supporter. But I do want someone who understands his CEO and provides a level of support to that CEO. They also need to trust that individual and have the board on the same page. Not an easy task, but I could be describing the Chair or a President or CEO you know or have worked with...and I think that's my point.

If this is pure recreation, we are COOKED as a club.

He's probably hiding from the government after the PWC thing.
Mokbel style.

I'm half-expecting him to copy Skase - 'I have a medical certificate from this wonderful Italian winemaker...sorry, doctor. Just stuck here, I'm afraid. You know how it is  '

Typical Carlton

Board upheaval

Underperforming coaches

Underperforming players

Overpaid on field white saviours

You'd have to say right now the Sayers Voss combo has failed.

All fair points.
Good to see Craig go.
Get rid of the old dead wood and move forward.
I have more faith in Brian Cook than the old boys club, they haven't got it right for over 20 years.
We need to put a missing persons out for Diesel by the sounds of it.
Boot him if he is not doing his job either.
And a hard no on Mike also, we need new blood not old.
Surely Mike gets a pass? He's highly intelligent, and doesn't seem the type that would foster a "boys' club" environment.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in the role.

I"d be begging him to get on board .

Doesn't he have to get past the board selection panel?

You've led me to believe you liked Teague as the coach....if not, you agree he was underperforming?

haha

That's where it gets tricky.

I reckon if Fitzy put his hand up, he would get the nod.
Maybe Fitzy is waiting for the invite, but will have to wait for Sayers contract to finish or the PWC enquiry does that for us.

Following is relevant section from constitution......

if requested by the Independent Nominations Committee, a proposed
appointee must be available to attend an interview with members of the
Independent Nominations Committee during business hours within 14 days
of the date of the request (or such longer period as the Independent
Nominations Committee may determine in its absolute discretion);
(viii) failure to attend an interview with the Independent Nominations Committee
(if required) will render the nomination null and void;
(ix) the Independent Nominations Committee will assess a proposed appointee
against the Director Eligibility Criteria; and
(x) the Independent Nominations Committee will report to the Board on the
suitability of a proposed appointee for appointment as a Director and will
make a recommendation in relation to each candidate as to whether the
Board should appoint the proposed appointee as a Director. For clarity, the
recommendation of the Independent Nominations Committee is advisory
only, and a candidate's nomination will be valid regardless of whether the
candidate is recommended by the Independent Nominations Committee.

Hard to imagine Fitzpatrick being expected to front up to an interview (the media would give us deserved heaps if that happened) or that he would not be recommended by it (the Committee)

And supporters?

I love our club and am gutted with our year to date. Perhaps builds will be needed when we’ve seen out the year.
However, we all have a role to play and should be part of the picture your painting. One thing is for sure, each of the above are supporters of our club and would be doing their bit to do the right thing. And I know that staff members you’ve mentioned receive a considerable amount of abuse which takes its toll.

We are in this shit together….that includes you and I Paddy my friend

Did we? From media and "direct" communications from him, the message provided from Ross, was that he had no interest/ intention of going through with an interview process and he simply expected to be appointed to the role?

Yeah, that's the point. We didn't interview Lyon and he didn't get the gig.

So if the INC demands that candidates need to be interviewed then Fitzy, in theory, would at least need to sit down and have a chat with them. If nothing else that should at least help to discover his potential methodology and capacity to help.

Our problems don't lie in the areas that a club President oversees. IMO, they're the healthiest they've been in years. If Sayers has to move on prior to end of 2024, then in all liklihood Rob Preisetly becomes President. He's already been through his corporate controversy and was cleared of any wrong doing. Might be wrong, but I think he still resides in Sydney. I don't think that matters. In any case, he'd be a sound replacement.

Not sure what Mike Fitzpatrick would bring to the table to be honest.

I see your point.

Although Fitzy could arguably help change the culture at the board level. That's probably naive of me, but one can dream.

He also has more football credibility than most Presidents, being an ex-player. I know we've had Sticks previously, but with all due respect to Sticks, his level of intellect is not comparable to Fitzy.

I concede these aren't very good points, but I dunno, it's just the vibe I get with Fitzy. Insert joke from The Castle here.
