Didn't think he was a great choice to begin with, but amongst bigger levels of mediocrity never really was a pressing issue. Unfortunately, he made a promise as such about today being an improved performance, and failed to deliver, both as a leader of a team and as an individual. You're only as good as your word, and he's gone back on that (as part of a group, and as a leader of the group), and as such, should step down to focus on his own game, in my opinion. |

Struggled today under a tight tag. Needs to work both ways, but would it kill his teammates to lay a block or attempt some kind of physical intimidation of his opponent? |

Yeap, plain as day he's not a captain. Not a slight on him, some people just don't make it. |

He isn't a natural leader, so he had to learn most of the leadership skills he is displaying. Do we have any natural leaders at the club ? |

Good question Mr C If Murphy steps down it's easy to say Simpson / Carrazzo... not the answer imo So who looks the goods to lead us for the next 5-7 years? There's your problem |

Some people are born leaders, some people struggle with it. that's the reality of it all. I don't think removing the title now is the option, but a rethink next year definitely. the problem is im not sure there is anyone that warrants it. Simpson, perhaps, but that is only a short term solution. the club is in a world of pain unfortunately. |

If I see another performance by Murphy that resembles his "not good enough, gotta get the boys up, blah, blah blah," BS outside Visy last monday morning. I'm am going to explode |

This is the only way he will be successful. This is the only way we will improve and galvanize as a group. He isn't a natural leader but he could be a very good one in the end if given the right support. |

Didn't agree with you Rhino when you were after Juddy's head, but I agree with you about Murph. It would be unprecedented for a captain to step down mid season and it almost certainly won't happen. But he is just plain and simply weak. It's a poison chalice for him Perhaps the worst since Dale Monteith as Richmond captain couldn't get a starting 18 gig in a grand final side. |

I feel for Murphy, the club is to blame for this. Murphy hasn't the attibutes to be the main leader. Stupid decision in the first place. Simpson should have been selected as Captain but then again he doesn't have the same marketing power as Murphy, the club was more concerned about the marketing. |

Murphy is all skill and no leadership. We need some players on our list with the competitive desire of Selwood or Hodge It should be our number 1 recruiting priority...leaders with some mongrel.....FOOTBALLERS, not athletes. I'd give Touhy a go. ![]() ![]() Skill and Hardness.......(just lacking condfidence atm, like the rest of the team) |

It's time for them all to step down. Kernahan who has presided over this debacle, Malthouse, who has clearly lost the players, and Murphy, whom I think is a great player, but is not the on field leader we need It's time to go.... |

There was some talk the other day about whether individual brands are relevant or even existent in football. If they are, I'd say his is irreparable from a position of leader, or being capable of selling the idea to members young and old alike that he is capable of playing a role necessary to deliver Carlton a flag. Too often does someone who fails to deliver make grandiose statements like this (let's not forget the promise of retribution for Carrazzo among other cringers) Get back to playing footy. |
